Bubble in my sidewall
Bubble in my sidewall
My stock tire has a 2 inch bubble in the sidewall. I have about 34,000km on these tires.
- Can I get this replaced under warranty? I am positive that I did not hit anything. The tire must be defective
- How dangerous is it to be driving like this? I'm worried about a blow out.

If there is any damage to the liner of the tire wear the bubble is you stand zero chance of getting it replaced under waranty. If there is not damage to the liner you stand a very slim chance. Road hazard type waranties on OE tires never go smoothly for anyone involved.
What ever the case may be get it taken care of sooner then later, be it a seperation or an impact break its not good!

Mine got fat bubbles on my CL. I think over pressuring the tires coupled with a pot hole tend to do it. I got a fatty and I had my tire pressure at 36 vs. recommend 32. I reduced the pressure and no new ones grew. Depends on the size of it I guess on how madly it needs to be changed.
Yea, i dont think that the normal stock tires will come with a warranty that will cover bubbling. On the other hand, if you have a road hazard protection when you got new tires... that would definately cover it.

The liner is on the inside of the tire, if there is a break where the damage is its known as an impact break and will not be covered under waranty- its quite common.

Good luck with the dealer.

i just put a set of falken 512's on for about $375
mounted and balanced.
A bubble is broken cords. Change the tire immediately.
I haven't cut open my michelin to verify yet. This tire may have the
new process that bodyply does not wrap around the bead and turnup
outside.
Their new process truncates the cord ends, sandwiched between two
bead halves.
I've heard alot of talk about this failure mode in michelins.
Inspect your rims close, particularly inside, is there any bending
for flat spot on the rim at the bubble location.
Almost no chance they'll warranty it, they just say you hit something.
Time to get new tires. Pirelli Pzero Nero was a step up in handling and
wet traction for me, made in America, Georgia.
Fuzion for cost effective high perfomance top wet traction and
light snow capability and will last reasonably well for this capability.
Toyo has good rep. I don't want to leave out Falken and Yokohama, never used them myself, just don't know. The Yokohama facility in Virginia is not
world class, it probably depends if you get some out of Japan or Virginia.
If your going for the ultimate highway tourer, cost not issue, Bridgestone
Turanza LSV.
For cheap all round the new Kuhmo all season is doing real well on the family van, good wet traction, quiet.
They'll 'bout all get the job done, but there are some bad ones. Had to take
off a set of Summitomo first day, like on ice in the rain.

It seems the aftermarket tires are cheaper then stock. Why?
fdl: The bubble is not covered. I don't think even road hazzard covers a bubble in a tire. Check with a major tire resaler, like NTB.

IMO you were better off buying 4 new tires. And how much more time could it have taken?
Now in another 34K you'll need 3 more new tires.
Of course at your pace that may take 2 years so maybe someone like mysef or manusauce would have benifitted from 4 new tires.

dom, i hear ya. But i didnt have time to research tires and if i get summer tires then i would need to buy winters as well.
The news gets worse, apparently i need to do my alignment as well. $129 + tax

I got the exact same answer from my dealer and from the tire shop that ended up doing the replacement for me. The new tire came with a warranty though.

)I had the bubble problem too. I paid $242 to replace it. In my city, Boston, there is a pot hole law, that I might be able to get my money back within 30 days of the report. Check with your city hall. See if there are any kind of laws that protect you, then find the bigest pot hole in the city. :-)
There was no damage at all, just a bubble. Acura definately wouldnt cover it. I called a Michelin dealer and they said they woudlnt touch an OEM tire. So I was SOL.
Plus the alignment was off which is more evidence that i hit something.
