18x8 215/45/18 or 235/40/18

First of all let me just say thanks to info from the The Tire Selection/Wheel Size Master Guide , its helped me in a deciding twice on tires for various rim setups on my TSX.

New question. On an 18x8 rim (TL A-specs) going onto a TSX.

215/45/18 vs 235/40/18

It looks like the sidewall and circumference are almost identical. What would "fit the rim better and provide good sidewall protection against potholes? Im assuming the 235 would wrap the width of the rim better?

My main concern is +/- under 1.0% and pothole protection. Just curious as to what everyone else is running on thier 18x8 setup?

arch,
I just ordered the TL A-Spec type Optional Rims myself and I think I have decided to go with 230/40/18's. I had the same concerns and that's what I based my decision on. Which finish did you get? TSRW

if you are getting 18's go with the 235's. That's the closest circumference to stock.

I'm assuming the wheel offset is +45. So as long as you don't lower too much (<1.75" F), you should be fine.

Those are fine too. Slightly undersize but there are a lot of people running that size without any concerns. You'll probably want to lower if you haven't already to reduce some wheel gap.

Thanks for all the reccomendations guys. Looks like Im going with 235/40/18's. Hopefully the stock wheel gap wont be too bad.

Im going to put more milage on my existing rim/tire combo (2 months old) before I order the new tires. Maybe until then I can get some koni's and eibachs.

I went with the chrome look finish of the 3 available. The silver sparkle looked too stock to me. The gunmetal or dark chrome Ive never seen in person so I didnt want to be suprised. So I went with the chrome painted going onto a CG.

Took advantage of the Sunnyside Acura internet special they had going. Im anxious to see how they look, but Im not going to pull off a perfectly good set of TL rims/tires I just bought a couple of months ago.

I went with chrome to set the car apart a little bit. Seems like the CG is pretty popular in my area. With the TL rims everyone assumed it was a TL at first glance, which are all over the place here.
