18" wheels, what coilover?

i've browsed through the "Various Suspension Setup Info and Pics" thread, and am still having trouble deciding what to do with my car.

i want to get some new wheels for my '06. i think i've decided on the g-games 77 wolf, but now i need to decide on sizes.

i'm debating between:
staying 17x7 and transferring my stock tires
or
going 18x7.5 and getting yokohama avid v4s

-which size tires would give me the same overall diameter so that i wouldn't have problems with my speedometer or odomoeter?

i know that the 17 will probably look smaller than stock, but if i get 18" i'm going to run into kind of a 4x4 problem.

-so which coilovers or suspension mod would be the best thing to do to maintain a stock ride height?

what would you all suggest? i don't want it dropped too low but i don't want to have a SUV. most of all, i don't want to go dead broke

-Get the 18"
-225/40/18 or 235/40/18 are good
-Tein Basics or Tanabe Sustec would probalby suit your coilover needs well and be very comfortable

according to tirerack.com there aren't 18" models of the yokohama avid v4s. is this true or do they just not carry them in stock?

or do they not show it because i entered my vehicle information?

No 18's for the V4S. H4S yes, which is what I'm running.

so then, since the yoko v4s don't come in 18, what are all of your suggestions for tires @ 235/40/18?

the tire size selection guide says that 235/40/18 is closer to OEM than 225/40/18, so i think i'd rather go with that.

its something like .1% difference, 225/40/18 is 1mph off at 60mph, neglible result. don't let 235/40/18 sizing stop you from getting the tire you want

I suggest that you go higher. Try 235/35/19's. This is the perfect size with no speedometer variance whatsoever. Try the Miata tire size calculator to verify and prove my assertion. Here is the link: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

while the look of 19" appeals to me, my lack of funds to immediately drop my car, the harsh(er) ride, and increased wheel & tire cost hold me back from it

Cool

Ok, Gotcha..235/40/18 will give you more contact patch which can translate into a marginally better handling. Also, this would be closer to stock.
