Howdy.

Well my TSX is a daily driver, but I don't really do all that much driving with it.
Seeing how I work from home and all.

Needless to say, I'm going to put some new rims and tires on, but I'm struggling
with what rim size to choose.

At first, I was pretty set on having 19's, but it's quite hard to find 19's in the rims
that I like.
Seeing how I would probably need to get a 7.5 or 8 inch wide rim with an offset
that is somewhere between 42 and 50mm. That's just not easy to come by.
8.5 inch with a 40mm offset is more what I'm finding.


So, for all of you that have asked yourself this very same question, what did
your answer turn out to be and where are the pics of that answer?

I used to consider the Volk racing rims for my TSX too.
But when I see the price...hahaha. never mind then.
I think for me The second one and the volk looks good.
if you decided and put it on your car. take the picture and lets us see.

Price is of no concern to me.
I don't care so much what they cost, I just want them to fit right.
I'll be putting Tein SS Coilovers probably on the car and want to drop
it to around a finger gap.

I've done some extensive reading, only to find really that an 8.5" wide rim
is simply not going to cut it, it's too wide. Or so I believe from reading.
Especially with only a 40mm offset.

Therefore, if I get the AME Tracers, I'll have to go with a 18x8x48mm set.

But I don't want to buy a set of 18 inch AME's when really a set of
19 inch Volks or Advans or RonJons would look better.

So I'm hoping for some help in deciding this here before I go and blow like
$3,000 or whatever it's going to cost for these rims and tires.

If youre going to get dropped, and get the kenstyle kit, i would say go with the RonJon's!
The only reason im not considering them is because i dont plan on getting a body kit, just maybe get lowered.

do you care about ride quality? lowering + big rims = rougher ride

well, i would say looks are my main objective. though, i dont want a completely choppy ride. Thats why im looking for 18s, just perfect.

I'm starting to lean towards 18's too.

Ride quality plus availability of sizes that will fit our car...

i really think anything more than 18"s are excessive, but it's your car.

personally, i'd like something that looks good that are 18"s and relatively lighter. our car can definately shed some unwanted pounds.

Those AME Tracers that I'm looking at in 18" are lighter than our stock 17's,
which will help out, and they do come in 18x8x48mm, which is perfect.

I just might pull the trigger on those.
I'll sit on it a while though, the others are nice as well, as well as many
other rims out there being nice...

so many options...

Just to add more information to the discussion, 18's still put the weight further from the axis of rotation regardless of lighter weight. Having the weight further from the center of the wheel will make it harder to turn. Adding to that point, 18" tires are heavier than 17in tires due to the sidewall reinforcement, again adding weight and furthering it from the wheels axis.

For a torqueless wonder like the TSX, it makes a difference.

The ideal for acceleration, deceleration, ride comfort, and performance as compared to stock is going with a lighter rim with the stock diameter, stock width, and lighter, better tires than OEM.

May not be best for looks though. If that's what you are going for, more power to ya.

Well, lucky me I'm not all too concerned with power.
I bought a TSX didn't I?

I came into the market looking for a used 328i or C240 or most likely a used TL.
I looked for months trying to find the TL I wanted, but it just didn't exist.
Or it was sold before I could get to it.

One thing I like about the TSX is that is has a smaller engine, a 4 banger.
Sure, it's a V-TEC, but it's a 4 banger with pretty low torque output to be honest.
I'm okay with that for sure.
Fuel economy is probably, no surely, more important to me than power.

And yes, ride comfort is a concern as well, which will ultimately push me out of
the market for 19's probably.

The real point I'm trying to make is that the overall look of the car is more
important to me than it being very powerful.
I'm not out to race anyone or chew up a bunch of premium gas so I can try
to look juvenile to other drivers.
I'm not a "ricer" either, I don't want the car to look as though it's been all set
up to run quarter mile races when it hasn't been.

I want the car to look right, you know, ever watched Chip Foose in action?
I want the stance right, the body right, and the tires right.
17 inch rims, to me, just won't ever look quite right on our car, they'll always
look too small to me, no matter what kind of rim they are.
Therefore 18-20 inch is the range I'm looking for.
20 inch, in most cases, is just silly. Some look okay, but few look "right."
19 inch is a pretty good look, they certainly can look "right" if you choose the
right rims, but they're going to hurt ride quality, and the rims I like best won't
fit our car in 19 inch.

So that really leaves me with the 18 rims offering a larger size to help me with
my problem of seeing 17's as too small. But still offering a decent ride quality.
I just have to be sure to choose the right rim.

If I choose an 18 where the spokes dip in before the edge, they'll probably look
too small. So I think I'm going to go for a design where the spokes reach all the
way out to the edge of the rim.


At the end of it all, I'd like the car to appear stock to someone who doesn't know
what a TSX looks like. I want it to be clean and just look like it was built that way
from the factory.
But of course, to look much nicer in reality than what the factory did.

i have the 19" ron jon inspyres with the liquid graphite finish ..great for CGP .. the rims are 19x8.5 with a 42mm offset .. i have the aspec body kit with the aspec suspension that gives it a one inch suspension drop. the body kit lower the stance another inch looks perfect for me the ride is not that harsh i have 225 35 19 bfgoodrich tires no rub issues or anything. the only down side i have noticed that the car is starting to drag a little because of the added weight to our little I-4 motor. i think the ron jons are 20 25 lbs each w/o tire. but i would deff go with ron jon rims great company excellent product and the rims are made for honda acuras only.

MMsTSX, your reasoning sounds right on the money. Wasn't trying to knock ya, just wanted to draw out a point you made to make sure the correct assumptions are being made.

it's b/c of reasons like these that i've actually started contemplating getting lighter 17" rims rather than the 18"s i wanted originally. anything to help this lardass move a little better.

sorry for the delay these were some quick pictures taken when i put the rims on. its been really cold these past few months havent really found the time to completely clean my car and do a nice photo shoot with my good camera. i have a aspec drop and the aspec body kit i am happy with the look the car doesnt look it ride like its slammed
