04-05 vs 06 wheels

Wrote about this in rmpage's thread, but I thought you all might find this interesting.

04-05s wheels are made by Hitachi
06 wheels are made by Enkei again.

04-05 wheels weight 10.795Kg
06 ones weight 10Kg

Interesting...

Perhaps the slightly lighter wheels adds to the feeling of the acceleration being more brisk?

2lbs difference per wheel seems significant enough to create a different feeling I would think.

I thought the 04-05 wheels were also made by Enkei?

In fact isn't the Enkei symbol on them?

According to our FAQ's..

2004-2005 Standard Equipment

Wheels
17"x7" Aluminum Alloy
55mm Offset
24lbs
Manufactured by Enkei
Can't recall who provided this information. Although I'm near certain there's an Enkei symbol on them. Maybe moda means they were made by Hitachi for Enkei?

And I'm confused at to what you mean by "06 wheels are made by Enkei again"

The symbol is on them (my '04 stock wheels). Also on my TL A-Spec 18". Never heard the Hitachi thing before.

Although its great that Honda realized the wheels weighed too much and did something about it.

My parts catalog sometimes tells the manufacturer of the parts. For our 04-05 wheels it lists Hitachi and on the 06 wheels it lists Enkei. I know the symbol you are talking about as well. I've seen it on Toyotas too.

No manufacturer given for the SS wheels. I check all the other Accessory wheels too and they didn't have anything either (except weights.) The SS wheels are 11.68Kg.

Thanks and shiat at that weight.

I did not realize they were what much heavier. Oh well, looking to change to a lighter 19" in the summer anyway.

Well interestingly I found the part number 08W17-SEC-200C, call High Performance EPS-R5 17" wheels that are 6.805Kgs. Wondering if that is a special wheel that RTR is using. I'll have to cross that with their VTS sheet.

I always thought the symbol on our wheels that I've seen on other Japanese based cars just meant it was a stamp (of quality or origination) noting it was a Japanese wheel. I've tried to do some searches about the symbol and nothing yet.

Just walked out to look. Looks more like a J W L joined together. I'm trying to see if a Kanji symbol exists for that.
