Ran 0-60 in 6.8 sec

Gave my new (well, used from eBay) G-Tech SS a try yesterday with a best 0-60 of 6.8 sec. With my mods, that's not astounding but what it really taught me is that there's a lot to learn about really hooking up a good timed acceleration run. I need to keep experimenting with different launch techniques, etc. I got wheel hop, wheel spin, bogged shifts, etc. Basically, what the G-Tech told me is I suck.

Still a ton of fun, gonna do more runs soon. Hoping to break 6.5 sec in a repeatable fashion.

Sure! DC header, home-made SRI, Hondata reflash, Random cat, UR pulleys, Avon M550s. The tires are a mixed bag in terms of acceleration -- probably better grip than stock, but also 2 lbs/tire heavier. I switched from CAI to SRI -- I think the length and large diameter of my home-made CAI were negatively affecting lower-end tq and throttle response. Esp. in the colder months, I prefer the SRI.

I'm going to record once I get decent enough that the runs don't look ridiculous. My first couple runs were a blur of wheel hop and bogging engine, bad enough that the G-Tech gave me the "This race was ended prematurely because you clearly suck" message.

It would have been pretty interesting to see what your times would be completely stock to compare to these runs.

Cool, I'll be interested to hear what your runs come out. My bro and I used to race a BB Chevy Caprice, don't have time to race much anymore. I'm going to put the G-Tech in the Chevy sometime -- last run (years ago) was 12.7 sec 1/4 mi.

I got it used on ebay for $140 shipped. Works great, I just need to get better at being consistent with it.

Is this the g-tech with orange display? I heard it needs to be mounted on flat surface or was that the old g-tech pro?

Windsheild mount, plugs into the 12V. Here's their website:

Unfortunately, I didn't have a G-Tech when my car was still stock. I think the stock 0-60 for an '04 6mt is around 7.5 sec.

Per the Gtech, I ran a 7.12, 7.52 & 7.69 with only a K&N drop in. I'd say the 7.5 number is the most accurate.

I have this G-Tech. I have it mounted via velcro and some custom-made pads right on my steering column. Makes it easy to see the shift light in my peripheral vision. The shift light is just awesome! Makes it a snap to shift at redline without taking your eyes off the road.

My mounting position makes it nearly impossible to read the G-Tech without stopping to pull it off the velcro. For me, this is good because otherwise I was always glancing over at it and tempted to fiddle with it while I was driving.

Tomorrow I'll snap a photo of how I mounted it (different than the earlier photos in another post). Super easy. I want to hard-wire it and mount the red button someplace -- maybe in the blank down by the VSA button.

Going downhill with the wind in its back.

j/k, I'd say 8 is realistic.

I have an old-school GTech that I bought back in 1998. Several weeks ago when we had our first Fall freeze I took my '06 TSX 6 speed out and made two 0-60 runs. I use a flat straight piece of freeway (a rare thing around here), and this was at night so I could safely pull off, stop, then launch at will with no obstacles.

One run was 6.88 and the other was 7.12. I actually thought those figures were exactly average for what one should expect for the '06 6 speed. Now reading this thread, it has me wondering--My car is completely 100% bone stock in every detail, even down to the tire pressures. What gives? Is my GTech screwed up, is my TSX abnormally peppy, or did I just get lucky with my launch and 1-2 shift?

I did not attempt a 1/4 mile run because I figured my speed would greatly exceed the limit on that particular freeway

I doubt my GTech is screwed up because it has always delivered pretty typical numbers for any other car we tested with it. The freeway was a nice aged slab of pavement, so maybe that helps?

Your G-Tech sounds pretty close, I think C&D lists the '06 as 7.2 sec, assuming that's a 6mt. At 6.9, you're on the quick side.

I did a few more runs last night, 6.62, 6.58, & 7.22 (crap launch, lots of VSA on the last one) all with VSA on. I think there are a couple more tenths in there, still don't have the whole sequence of throttle and shifting down. It's not as simple as just mash the throttle (in 1st and on the 1-2 shift), as I thought it'd be. Takes practice.

I want to get down into that 6.3 range, like JTso. I'm lacking the bigger TB and exhaust, though. The exhaust might be marginal with stock intake, etc. But with SRI, header, cat, and Hondata (more time on high cam), the stock exhaust may be limiting, you think?

It's actually better than that. Dan Martin did a 6.8 stock and I did a 7 flat. And a 15.3 1/4 stock.

Sub-7 stock runs? Is this at the track or Gtech?

6.8 sec in a totally stock '04 TSX seems REALLY fast compared to most of what I've read (on AZ and elsewhere), but Dan Martin doesn't appear to be a guy who embellishes. It's all I can do to get 6.6 out of mine with mods. I have learned (no, didn't figure it out, had to learn it) that you absolutely can't shift into 3rd until you're past 60 or it kills your time.

My next mod will be lighter-weight wheels and summer tires. I think those will drop a tenth or two off and add even more grip than the Avon M550s. Plus, they'll be fun at the autocross/track days.

Cool thanks. I was wondering if it could be wired to something else so that the wiring coul be concealed or does it have to be in the 12v socket?

Yes, you could hardwire it in.

Peter, 6.6 is very respectable. That should be a mid 14s run.

Lightbulb wrong

a cl type s runs 0-60 in 6.4 seconds and does the quarter mile in 14.8. So how will a car that runs 6.6 to 60 run the quarter mile in mid 14's?
