Live for Speed racing sim

Not sure if this should go here or Ramblings...

Anyway, I just discovered this neat online racing sim called Live for Speed (http://www.liveforspeed.net). It's primarily an online game (though it is definitely a "sim", not an "arcade game"). The graphics aren't that terrific by today's standards but what I find really interesting is that it has a mode that lets you drive an invisible car (just the tires visible) with visual indicators of the various forces that are acting on the car. You can make adjustments to the car setup and literally SEE the difference they make. Hard to explain, but fascinating:

Has anyone here tried this game? What are your thoughts?

I started playing that game when it was in it's early development phases. Best physics of any racing game bar none. I'm going to wait until the final release is available before I get back into it but it has tons of potential.

I just noticed on the LFS forums that someone has created a track for the game based on the airfield track used by Stig in Top Gear.

Definitely going to give this a go with my PC wheel this weekend. Steering by mouse is very weird.

Hmmm, sounds like they've still got a lot of work to do before it goes gold. The original plan was to split it into 4 stages. So S1 is a long way from S4 and they've been working for almost 2 years now.

Sounds like they could use a few more developers in house.

Their current published plan only lists two phases, S1 & S2. Looks like S1 is more or less complete with 8 cars and 6 track environments. They are selling it now and there appear to be quite a number of people using it - online leagues with teams, etc. S2 is "coming soon" with more cars and more tracks.

Their web site says that they are only 3 developers, selling direct to customers with no publisher. It's an interesting endeavor, certainly.

Cool. I wasn't looking forward to the final release in 2009.
