Auto TSX 1/4 mile : 16.084 @ 86

ClubRSX member master22 ran a 16.084 with his auto TSX. Seems like a slow trap speed though. I thought I'd be high 16's.

that's a pretty great trap speed... way faster than a 325.

Wow I am surprised someone went to the tracks with their TSX. I miss going to the tracks. 16.0 is respectable time consider the weight of the car. My stock civic back in 1997 hit 17.3. Maybe after a few years we will see some 12's in the TSX!

16.0 is kind of what I'd expect from the auto. I got 15.4 and 15.5 pretty consistently in the 6-speed. My traps were around 90 each time though. Not bad considering how crappy the stock tires are.

I took my TSX to the track several times last fall. The best I ran in the 1/4 mile was 16.6@86. The annoying wheel spin hurts my times. The stock tires are not that good.

If you want I can post the pictures from last October at the track.

Car and Driver got 15.6 @ 91mph with a 6 speed manual TSX.

Automobile got 16.1 @ 89mph (with a 6 speed?). These are better than the BMW 325i (16.2 @ 87), Audi A4 (16.5 @ 85) and almost the same as the Saab 9-3 Linear (16.0 @ 89).

Isn't it interesting that some people go all hysterical and histrionic and talk about how slow the 4 cylinder (gasp!) TSX is, whereas it is virtually the same as, or even better than, the 325i and A4 that they never complain about?

too bad roads have turns and bends...
Based on what I've heard/read the TSX is quite nimble and predictable in the corners...for a 3300lb FWD sedan that is.

For your information and education:

Cornering (per Automobile):

Acura TSX 0.88g
Audi A4 0.88g
BMW 325i 0.94g
Lexus IS300 0.85g
MB 230K 0.84g

So the losers of this bunch are Lexus IS300 and MB 230K

kurt_bradley :

I went to the track yesterday (temp was 84 deg) and my only pass was 16.38. A lot of wheelspin and I change my tires to Yoko AVS ES100.

1. At what rpm do you launch your six speed and what temp are you running that you got 15.5 times?

2. Does I have to shift at redline in every gear?

Thanks

KD

Nice! Not a bad time considering it's an auto. I would've expected times closer to 17 than 16 so that's good stuff. Questions: What was your technique... brake torque as much as brakes hold? Did you shut VSA off? Did you use the sportshift 'manual' mode?

I ran my 6-speed TSX twice this summer with just 2K miles on the odo. Seems like better tires would've done this car wonders. I got somewhere in the mid 15's with a trap speed of 90ish and the launch didn't seem very efficient thanks to the weak sauce tires. I can't find the time slips so I don't know for sure but I remember it was pretty consistent with C&D's times and I don't even consider myself a good drag racer. In fact, I actually suck. It was a big surprise that I was able to match and even surpass C&D's times on the TSX because on the same day I also ran my S4 in stock ECU mode and even with a custom exhaust and downpipes, I still couldn't beat C&D's times of 14.1. Does this mean the TSX is easier to drag race? Maybe. I think it's probably because the TSX's 6-speed is so easy to shift that drag-racers with no-skills like myself are able to post decent 'professional'-like times. On a side note, I later dropped some 100 octane race fuel on the S4 and switched the ECU to the race program and managed a 12.8 which brought big smile on my face. Things like this give me the irresistable urge to mod the crap out of my TSX even though I vowed that I wouldn't. So now maybe a little Hondata ECU upgrade (hopefully soon), CAI, lightweight wheels with summer tires, and coilovers wouldn't hurt, wouldn't it? Do I hear high 14's? Shhh. What happens on acura-tsx.com stays on acura-tsx.com ok?

Why did'nt any of you guys report these 1/4 mile times. We knew Dan and Kurt's times and we knew all the mag times but now we have masmole, kendroz and Agent all reporting times?

Why the hold back guys? We knew times would'nt be great, the TSX is far from a drag car. Hope you were'nt embarrased? Actually masmole's times were good.

Gilbo, your really coming around.

I never reported them because I only started posting here recently and I figured 1/4 mile time slips and such were old news for a car that's been around since early last year.

Besides, the TSX's numbers aren't anything to brag about... Since I couldn't do much better than what everyone knows C&D already got, no point really.

Why? Has anyone here actually bested C&D's time by a significant margin? And I mean real track time slips and not some G-timer gadget thingy times.

I did not do burnouts, no way I want to ruin my tires like that. The problem was with my launches, it would make the tires squeal really bad, which slows me down.

I'll see what I run when the tracks reopen in April.

G-Techs are always about .2-.3 off. I can't see getting a 15.2 at all, and I'm a pretty good driver. The Yokos will definately help you out, but I still can't think that 15.2 can happen with a car that is stock (and the tires too). I just dumped it at about 3500 and hit the redline nicely on each shift. I always get good lights, so I don't have to worry about that, and my 60' times were at around 2.1. I wouldn't mind sticking a phantom grip in the box, just to see what it will do with a little help from a diff.

As for any inquiries about Hondata, I'm imagining that you've all read the thread in the performance section.

It looks like master22 used SS in the runs and only has 200miles on the car!, not even broken in. It looks like the Auto TSX may be just a quick through the 1/4 mile as the 6MT .............er or maybe not

No timeslips for that run and if you asked me to run that again I couldn't do it. It had everything to do with it being really f-ing cold out and now there's just too much ice and snow to get a fast and safe run in. I'm trying to organize the next toronto meet at the drag strip so we can see just how acurate the Vector FX2 is. They say it's about +/- .1 to .15 seconds so it could have actually been faster.

Cayuga has their "Fast and Furious" friday nights. Lots of imports are there on those nights (and of course muscle cars as well).

May 7th is the first night.

"Toronto" MotorSports Park?

Hoping for something other than a Friday, but lets see what happens.

Track Record

"Top/Fuel Clay Millican 4.70ET @ 306.19 ACDELCO Canadian
Nationals August 2002"

I think the TSX can break into the 3's.

Ya , they changed the name of it a couple years ago. If you've ever been there before you 'll be happy to know they've also done some rennovations in hopes of landing some of the bigger races.

There is of course test and tune on the weekends as well, but its 90% muscle cars.
