Article of Time Attack on Mofidied Mag
Woohoo......my car (the Prelude, of course) made it in Modified Mag. In June 06 issue, they have an article on the time attack at Calif. Speedway back in March this year. When I picked up the magazine, I flipped to the page of the article and saw what they wrote. At first, I was a bit disappointed to find that my picture wasn't on there, but they have a pic for the 2nd place car. Then I flipped another page and found a pic of my car. Yeeehaaaaaa..........
This is what they wrote about my class.
This is what they wrote about my class.
The Unlimited class caters to the all-out race cars allowing slick tires and lexan windows to be used. In the FWD category there were two entrants, Mike Kojima and his Nissan Sentra SER race vehicle and Vincent Wong in what looked to be a stock '98 Honda Prelude. Don't be fooled by the tame exterior because this Prelude laid down an astonishing 1:17:91 time to beat Kojima by almost two seconds! Kojima was a bit puzzled by the outcome because he maintains that he was on pace with Wong but his time wasn't, 1:19:42.

Good job Vincent!
Let me just say that I've had the privilege of taking a ride in this Monster "Sleeper" Prelude while tailing a Lotus Elise at Streets of Willow
It was awesome!

Good job Vince. BTW, wasn't Mike Kojima the guy who wrote the article series "Suck, Squish, Bang, Blow" in SCC a few years ago? It was a pretty complete essay on building performance/race engines.

BTW, Kojima's car is a SER Cup car. I'm not sure what they are allowed as far as mods go, but from the recent race results, the SER Cup cars have been slower than the Honda Challenge H4 cars. So technically, my car has a little bit of an advantage over his car.

Props nevertheless, if not for just being out there!

Hope I have the $$$ to fix it before the December time attack.
BTW, here is my best lap (2 laps before I blew the motor) from yesterday, 2:07.463. At least I achieved my goal to break the 2:10 mark.

I hope you videotape this one.

I've been to an event at Streets of Willow where the outside temp was 104 degrees. It was definitely hot, but I still drove with no A/C. Just make sure you keep yourself hydrated.

It's hard to tell in the video, but you have a 5AT? I couldn't tell if you were sport shifting or regular shifting. Either way, I'm sure you're skills would tear us up on the track.

Loving this picture, reminds me of my ITR!!! I like the simple clean look of the Lude. Simple and purposeful! I am taking my ITR to summit point raceway in West VA this July!

Just read your response in my other thread, but decided to talk about the redline event over here. This way I keep that thread for answering any questions about the RSX-S gears.
Do you recommend using a racing oil like Redline or Motul for the track? Or will Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec be good enough? I've heard some track junkies swear that Redline or some other brand makes a big difference.
