Accord engine in Tsx...
Was anyone concerned with having the 166hp honda engine in the honda errr acura tsx pushed to 205hp with same displacement and extra 500+rpm's to redline? Dealer told me the tsx engine is the same engine as the honda accord, obviously modified to 205hp.
Previous car was '02 acura tl-s and that thing blew chunks.. 3 transmissions later at <50k miles, its sold.
Still, i'm considering a tsx so I was hoping someone else already had this concern to know how reliable the tsx engine really is? along with the tranny.
Thanks for the help..

The two engines share a block, but the specifics of the pistons, cams, and heads are different. The TSX achieves its additional power through these changes plus a higher compression ratio.
As for reliability, it is a Honda engine. Honda engines pretty much last forever.
With regards to the transmission, there haven't been many, if any cases of transmission failure that have been reported thus far.

I have a 04 TSX 5AT with 75,000+ miles on it. I don't have any problem... (except if you consider the rattle noise is a problem... of course...)
So, this should make you feel better.
P.S. The guy in "Bowling in Columbine" says that people in Canada don't lock their doors in their house... I seriously doubt that what he shows in the movie is true... That guy is just making this up... Is that true that you guys in Canada don't lock the doors in your house?

Yeah, i really think that movie was off about neighborhoods... I know where i'm going when i need extra cash if those nuts keep their doors open
Anyhoo... any more input on the engine.. I know its a honda... but so was the tranny in my TL....
And pushing an engine block that creates 166hp to create 205hp concerns me a little, but maybe i'm paranoid with a bad taste leftover from previous car. who knows...

This is my 3rd Honda.
My first was a 93 Civic DX with 130k on it. The second was a 2001 Accord VP with 80k. None of them had any problem.
Maybe you got the transmission that was made by Isuzu. Many Honda parts were made by Isuzu.

Back to topic, the K24A2 has not many similar engine parts to the Accord except for the block itself.

The K-Series motors are the best large production motors Honda has ever made.

Honda engines are rock solid.
Your bad experience with the tl tranny (auto, right?) should not reflect on Honda engines. Correct me if I am wrong guys, auto tranny just happens to be Honda's weak link, right? And that's probably their ONLY weak link. But judging from the track record of the 5AT TSX around here, seems like the auto tranny is OK now too!
No worry about the engine man!

^^ i'll agree to that also. 3rd gear on my 5AT is the abused bastard child - it sees the most high-revs of all the gears...and i'm at 26k miles now. no oil comsumption, no gear hunting, no rough shifts.
the engine sounds like the first day i took her home....(knocks on wood)

The Prelude I had has the H22 (not sure if there's any A or something trailing) but it was MT anyway

I wasn't saying the Prelude had a J series... two separate statements... sorry.

A bit off topic, but GM does utilize a similar approach with it's 5.7L V8 and the 4.3L V6. It's almost exactly the same everything, they just chop two cylinders off in their casting and balance off a few other things. That's why the latest Blazers got some unbelievably horrble gas mileage similar to a V8. Just a tid bit...thought I'd mention.
