Wierd noise at high RPMs
Wierd noise at high RPMs
Hey guys,
Tonight was a much colder night than usual. Usually it's about 60-70 degrees at night here. Quite comfortable. but today a cold front came through and it was 50 degrees and it dipped down into the mid 40's a few hours ago. Anyways... on a trip out somewhere after driving for about 30 minutes i stopped for about 20 minutes at the place i was going. then while getting in the car, the engine temp gauge was still at the normal running level. So after about 5-6 minutes of driving, i put the shifter into SS and in first gear i tried to hit Vtec but after the engine passed about 6000 RPM's there was this high pitched ZZZZZZZZZZZ coming from the glove box area. I thought it was the timing chain but i've never heard that noise before when shifting into Vtec on a regular day. So it was wierd. i figured maybe i haven't quite let the engine warm up again enough. So about 10 minutes later, i tried it again. Same noise. It was sort of like a high pitched static noise. It came from around the glove box side area of the car. It only happens above around 6000 rpm's so i'm pretty sure it's Vtec, but i'm not positive. Oil was changed about 5000 miles ago and most of my driving is about 80% highway. So... this is strange to me.
Any thoughts?
car only has 30,000 miles on it.

you said that your oil was changed 5k miles ago. have you checked your oil level? maybe it's time for an oil change.
vtec needs oil to work. if it's low then there wouldn't be enough oil to lube all of the vtec parts and you would hear metal grinding.
