What messed up my rotors? 04 TSX
My brakes started pulsing last week. I checked my wheels and the front rotors look clean and smooth but my rear rotors are really messed up. It looks warped and chipped. I'll be doing my own rotor and brake replacement for the first time this weekend but I want to know what caused my rotors to look like that. I had ceramic pads installed 2 years ago and they still have more than 50% left. I recently read that you shouldn't use ceramic with the stock rotors so I was wondering if that was what messed up my rotors or if it's the New england weather. Or is it just the tsx in general since a lot of people are complaining about it.
04 TSX w/ 30k miles. I know.. it's my second car.

I figured the pads would form to those grooves anyways. I'll be replacing both pads and rotors this weekend. There isnt much space between the rotor surface and the chipped surface metal so maybe the rotor is just all worn out and thin. I'll take pics of the pads.

it looks like the rotor was eaten away by rust or something else.
in for updates, as this is your first brake job!
if you have any questions, ask!
beware of the Phillips screw.

Now that you guys mention it, it does seem really odd. The pics I took, they're of 2 different spots on the same rotor and the spots have the same marking. I got the rear pads installed at goodyear. They probably messed it up somehow when they installed it. I can't wait for the rotors and pads to come in so I can see what the heck caused it.

Rotors get a layer of rust pretty quickly. Just take a look at your rotors after you car sits outside after a good rain storm. Usually, you remove the thin layer of rust when you brake the first time.
What happened here is that the pad dug into the rotor. Either the slide pins on the caliper are stuck, the piston was frozen, or the pads are stuck in the mounting hardware.
The reason they are rusty, is that the pad is not taking off that layer of rust. The rust isn't the bid deal, IMO. You will have to pull the caliper to find out what is wrong.
This just happened on my TSX, and the lower caliper pin was stuck. I also had an accord where I had to use a file on the edge of the pad to allow them to move. Usually a bit of anti-seize helps prevent this from happening.

How often do you drive your car? This happened to my Accord because it sat for extended periods with the e-brake on and only got driven about once per week. Rust caused significant pitting and chunks of the rotor eventually were sheared off.
