Phillips Screws on Rotors?

Hello,

I'm still new to Acura's and learning as I go. Tonight I did pads and rotors on my 04 Base TL. I stripped one of the phillips screws that hold the rotors on and did not replace it. Can someone tell me if that will cause any problems?

Thanks

Nope. Some people leave them off actually. Saves the hassle for the next change.

They are not necessary. They are to hold the rotor in place during factory assembly.

Lots of 'em get stripped and the heads drilled out. There are no issues if that's what you need to do.

Thank you guys! I kind of thought that was the case but I over worry about everything. It's the first time I've done brakes on an Acura and I can't remember seeing those screws on any other make car I've owned.

I've been screwed by those screws in the past.

I've busted two sets of Craftsman impact driver bits. And I actually cracked a rotor once when I didn't have the head drilled out enough.

next time you guys remove these use the proper tool and you wont strip them out.

Something like this. You smack the end with a hammer while turning. The screws will come right out no problem.

Took me a whopping 5 seconds to realize the drill would come into play on these. Drill em out and forget about it.

I bought the tool only to find that my rotors had been replaced before and the screws were missing -_-

anyway, that tool would come in handy doing other stuck bolts.

Just drill them out and it doesn't require a left handed drill bit either. Just drill the head off enough to remove the rotor then use a pair of vice grips to unscrew the rest of the screw. Took less than 5 minutes per side.

Those screws are soft metal. A carbide bit will eat through them in about 15 seconds.

I have always had great success hitting the screws with a brass drift, then using the impact driver. Havent had to drill one yet

also if you have a a regular hammer and a ball peen hammer, you can just use the ball end of the hammer against the screw and smack the ball peen with the other hammer and you should be fine.

Another way, my coworker uses a sharp punch and makes an indent on the screw and then hits that counter-clockwise. Works every time.

I broke 3 grabit screw extractors trying to get those damn screws out. Grabit makes the Craftsman version also. I just drilled them out. I did replace some of them with a new metric screw from True Value. I am anal like that.

The screws were totally infused to the surrounding metal.
