VSA Light and sticking park shift
VSA Light and sticking park shift
Okay, I hope that I'm describing this correctly. I don't know ANYTHING about fixing the inner workings of a car (I can change my own oil but that is about it).
My VSA light and /!\ light keep coming on, but there is no change in the way my car runs. Yesterday I had a problem shifting out of park where I could move the shifter about half-way to get it into drive, but then it would stop. I do usually have my foot on the brake while doing this. If I turn off the car then the indicator lights go off and I can move the shifter. Also I found if I put the brake ALL the way to the floor then the shifting is easier.
Sorry I have a 2004 Acura TSX AT with about 135,000 miles on it.
I did take my car over to AutoZone to have them try to retrieve the codes for the VSA but they said that they were not reading any codes at all for it.
What I'm wondering is, what could the problem be and since I will have to take it somewhere to be repaired, what kind of money am I looking at to have it fixed so that I know when they are trying to rip-me-off. Normally I don't worry about what to pay since this isn't my field, but honestly I'm pretty broke right now since I haven't worked in almost 4 years and my partner's paycheck barely covers all our bills so we really don't have all that much to spare to fix the car.
Thanks in advance guys!

Update. The VSA light now comes on when I try to shift out of park and the only way to get out of park is to open the little tab next to the shifter and use a key to manually unlock it.
Can anyone help me?

Okay so here is the problem that I now have. I've been having trouble with the VSA light being on and the shifter getting locked in park. I checked the brake light bulbs and one was blown so I switched it out and now I'm really confused. This is what is happening with the car now.
I start the engine (no problems all lights go off). When I push on the brake (car still in park) it feels like there is a lot of resistance (no resistance felt when in drive though) and if I keep my foot on the pedal with it pressed all the way down, then the brake lights come on then off, on off and I hear a clicking nose that sounds like it is coming from the shifter. I can now shift out of park with no problem it doesn't seem to stick now and I don't have to use the manual release. However I noticed that the brake lights don't always come on when I hit the brake while in drive and sometimes there is a delay after I hit the brake then the lights come on. There doesn't appear to be any trouble though when I'm in reverse, the brake lights seem to come on without a problem.
I also turned off the engine and restarted it and just went straight into drive (all indicator lights were off) and the brake lights worked fine. I was able to drive a couple of feet without a problem but then the VSA light came on again and the brake light started the issues again.
Please help!!! I have NO idea what is going on with this car and can't really afford to "trust" the dealership since there is no more warranty

you have to push the brake down to get it out of park always and honda/acura's have always had a problem with the vsa or abs light coming on. you will probley have to take it to a dealer and they will have to look over you breaking system.
Yeah I do put the brake ALL the way to the floor and the shifter still doesn't unlock. I'm hoping to avoid going to a dealership because the last time I was there they wanted to charge me $115 to change a light bulb
