Vibration issue while driving
Vibration issue while driving
I have a 2004 automatic TSX and it seems like theres a problem with the car but I'm not sure what it is. I apologize for the description I'm about to put because I pretty new at this and please let me know if you guys need more of a clarification.
while I am driving as I ease in and speed up to about 30-40 mph the car begins to vibrate. I think that the car vibrates between the gear shifts in this margin and if I dont speed up above when it starts vibrating and push down the gas pedal then the vibration consistently stays there. Recently I went to get my oil changed and the mechanics recommended I get a fuel injection service and after I did some research I thought that maybe it would help out with this vibration but I don't think it really helped, maybe a little but it could be just in my head.
hopefully you guys can help me out, and once again if you need any clarification let me know. thanks in advance!

First thing that comes to mind is a motor mount, or maybe the transmission. Really doubt it's fuel system related. Maybe someone who has experienced the same type of vibration could comment further. How many miles on the car?
The motor mounts (usually at least two) literally hold the engine/transmission unit to the chassis of the car. A quick and dirty explanation is think of a piece of rubber sandwiched between two pieces of metal. One side bolts to the engine, the other side bolts to the car. The rubber is relatively soft and absorbs much of the vibration and movement of the engine to insulate it from the car. Now..... this is an example of old motor mount technology. I use it to illustrate the function (and I'll confess that I don't know which type is used in the TSX). I think you'd find many mounts today are actually hydraulic. The function is the same, but think of an oil filled vessel that absorbs the energy (think of how a shock absorber works). If that mount fails (the rubber ones can suffer rubber separation from the metal backing, I assume something similar happens to the hydraulic ones), it can no longer insulate the car from the engine/trans. movement. I only bring it up because as these cars age, we seem to be getting reports of failing motor mounts being reported here. The failure is usually more prominent when the car transitions from load to no load and vice versa (during a shift for example). This motor mount failure idea is just thought; your problem could certainly be caused by something else.
The TSX has three mounts, one active in the front and two passive to the rear and passenger sides. The front one generally will cause excessive vibration at idle when the solenoid fails. Quick and dirt way to check is to have someone rev the engine with the car parked, in neutral, and the parking brake on. Any significant engine movement is likely indicating a failed motor mount.
i have a similar issue with my car but mine when in high speeds my car vibrates / shimmy but thats probably more of a balance or alignment. If you dont have a check engine light on just take it to the mechanic or transmission shop. Generally, about $50 they can let you know what the problem is.

your coming up on your 110,000 mile tune up. i know that cause one its in the book and im at 107,xxx and will be bring it in for this. they replace plugs oils filters etc but the big thing it they check your timing chain and valve and see if there loose or need relashing. and if your saying you n ot pushing the gas enough to change gears like from 5 to 4th etc 5th gear has a final drive that if you push the gas a little in 5th gear cruzing 40mph and up it will go to 5th gear and the torgue could cause the vibration.
Let me tell you what happened with my 07 tsx. As I gradually accelerated from 15MPH up to approx 25-30 MPH, I would get a vibration/shudder. Also would happen under same gradual acceleration rate at higher speeds to, just not as regularly nor as definite. Turned out to be a torque converter. Luckily mine was under warranty.
hey i also have an 05 tsx manual with 114,000 mi. i had a bad shimmy shake when accelerating through 50 to 65mph 3rd, 4th, 5th 6th gears. i thought it might b my flywheel or clutch. i had both the flywheel and clutch replaced plus had an alignment done with brand new tires balanced. only under accelation will i feel a shake. it was the axles. get new axles.
yea, check the drive shafts. I had a similar problem with accelerating and feeling shudering/shaking in my 04 tsx at certain speeds. It only happened during accelerating and wasn't dependant on what gear I'd be in. Before changing my axcels, I felt the shuddering around 30-35 mph and then again between 60-70. I did research here and it seemed the axels were the issue. Since you can't tell which one is bad without removing and inspecting them, I chose to replace the passenger side axel with and advanced auto one. Didn't really notice any change but now my car was shudding at 20 mph and also the normal 30 and 65 phm speeds. I figured I just replaced the wrong side and then changed the drivers side. Instantly cured the shuddering at 30 and 65 mph but I still have the shuddering at 20mph??? Maybe the cheap advance auto passenger dirve shaft is giving me problems but my brother is a honda mechanic and dad is a retired mechanic, and both say its doubtful, but possible, that a new cheap adxel would be defective.
