Valvoline- multi purpose grease.

Well, I just hit 30k and didn't feel like taking my car to a stealership to get my 30k service, so I decided to do it myself. I will be doing MTF, PSF, Break fluid, and grease all the hinges.

All my doors are starting to making that squeaky noise everytime I open/close the door. I went out and bought some Valvoline Automotive & Industrial general multi-purpose grease. I was wondering if I can use this or not? Does it really matter which ever brand I use? I noticed some said only for Ford, GM and Japanese automobiles only. Why is that?

Thanks!

Should be OK, though next time maybe try a marine grease that's waterproof (no such thing, but probably more water resistant). Kind of late now anyway since you already bought the Valvoline.

I think the dealer would have used Shin-Etsu Grease. You should be OK with Valvoline though.

I think that Shin-Estu stuff is specifically for the rubber seals. You wouldn't want to use a petroleum product there. For hinges and the like, any old lithium grease should be fine. There's stuff I have at home (I can't remember the name off hand) that's fantastic. It's like a red translucent color and it's sticky as hell. It doesn't cake up over time and it stays where you put it. I think it might be made by Valvoline now that I think about it. It's a fantastic all purpose grease.

I agree, the Shin-Etsu is more for rubber seals. Use Lithium grease for door hinges.

Ah, I found the stuff I have at home. It's made by Lucas. Lucas Red 'N' Tacky. High quality gunk.

Hmm, I though I read that Shin-Etsu was used on the door hinges. Thanks for the correction.
