TSX Battery

Hi all,

I left the trunk open one night last week on my 07 TSX and in the morning the battery was dead. I jumped the car and let it run for 30 minutes and everything seemed fine. However every morning for the last 5 days the car barely starts. If I let it run for 15 minutes or so, it'll be ok for the day. Otherwise any other starts seem to be close to failing. I've driven the car around for 5 days so I'd assume I've given it enough time to recharge.

Is there some way to recharge the battery to full and keep it full? or is the battery ruined?

the battery could be too low to fully charge.
how old is the battery? usually there's a little sticker that shows born date

Might be, I looked and found a sticker saying 11/11. It's weird I had no issues before it was drained.

^that was a good battery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

most of the time, in general, batteries only last 3-4 years.

I live in Houston, Texas where it normally reaches 100 degrees! my batteries only last a few years, like 2 or 3.

it was likely time, that your battery was headed towards death and the open trunk drawing the last bits killed it off

Lead acid batteries seems to never recover to full charge once they are 100% depleted. Your battery might have been border line after 5 years and depleting it sent it over the edge. You could get a battery charger/maintainer to top it off every day for about $30-$50; but, your max charge might only be 50%-80% compared to new. If you do the charger/maintainer thing; I would invest in jumper cables and/or a portable battery operated jumper also (like a NOCO Genius Boost Plus GB40 1000 Amp, $100, Amazon). You could just get a new battery for $90-$120 and be good for +5 years. I seem to average about 5-6 years with interstate batteries in New Mexico (as long as I don't deplete it 100%).

I've always done the Interstate Mega Tron II MT-51R for my TSX.

I'm high desert at 5000-7000 feet, low humidity, mild winters, 85-95 degree summers, and you can survive a NM summer without A/C because of the 15-20% humidity. Don't need a lot CCA to start a vehicle in NM when it is short sleeve weather 90% of the time. It is true about it being a "dry heat" thing.

yeah I'm in Michigan, so very high humidity in the summers and very cold winters. I'm having a hard time finding batteries. On interstate's site selecting the TSX and 2007 doesn't bring back any results. Using the Mega Tron II MT-51R, did it fit in the engine bay without issues?

Yes, the battery is the exact size as the OEM battery. Make sure it is the MT-51R and not the MT-51. The "R" stands for reverse for the pos/neg connections. The pos battery connection will be closer the engine on the "R" when installed. You can make a non "R" work; but, the positive cable would be stretched to the max because the positive connection will be closer to the bumper side than engine side. It would be the same for any other brand you pick if you decide not to go with Interstate.

Folks had equally good success with Costco batteries. I didn't have a Costco membership at the time I needed my batteries.

Awesome thanks! I'll check around here and see who has one locally as I think I'll need it here asap haha. I doubt interstate is doing free 2 day shipping.

06 6MT North of Toronto, with 210,000 miles. I'm on my second Costco Kirkland battery, Type 51R, and they've worked well. Rather than have a mechanic charge me $65 to tell me my battery needs to be replaced, I usually just replace them every 4 years - except for the one that came with the car, which I replaced after 3, after reading things here.
