Trunk Release on Remote & above license plate switch not working?

The Exterior trunk release switch and remote relase for the trunk are not working! This is actually my girlfriends car and I don't know much about Acuras.

It is a 2003 TSX. Funny thing is that the passanger side door lock just recently stopped working as well. That was a simple fix though, I just ordered up the lock actuator from Acura and replaced it! Now everything works fine.

Well I looked in the trunk and it seemed like a pretty easy fix as well. So, I ordered up the the main latch mechanisim, replaced it and still no joy. Then I did some more investigating and found that there is another switch, the one right above the licence plate that may be bad!

Yes, I tried toggling that switch in the glove box but that did not do anything! So, since the switch in the glove box didn't do anything, and replacing the main locking mechanism didn't do anything, I now think that it is the switch that is directly above the license plate that is causing the problem.

However, this switch is kind of a pain to remove and it seems that it is only held into place by some plastic clips, that I don't want to break! Does anyone have a diagram of this switch or any trouble shooting information on this? I am thinking that the remote activates this switch and that is why it is not unlocking properly and that the signals goes from there to the main locking mechanism?

I was just doing some reading on this forum and someone brought up a fuse panel and some control unit? What about that? Is it possible this needs to be reset?

Thanks for your help,

P.S. I like this forum, I think I will be using it a lot !!!!

I think you're on the right track with the switch over the plate being bad. Makes sense since none the electric devices will unlock the trunk. Can't help you with the fix, but hopefully someone else can (oh, and there is no 03 TSX by the way, 04 was first model year).

I just had my relay replaced in the trunk because my trunk release button wasn't working either. Might be that.

Oh yeah, I meant to say '04. I don't know what I was thinking!

LuvmyTSX,

Do you happen to know the parts that they replaced? What the relay was or where?

Thanks for your help,

I'll dig out the work order when I get home. Maybe there is more detail like a part number on it, I'm not sure.

I had the same problem on my 02 RSX, it was the trunk relay. I assume it's the same issue.

FYI, I looked at the work order. It states a broken wire at ground G501. Hope that helps.

Hi LuvmyTSX,

Thanks for the info but unfortunately id does not help me....

I was wondering, since you are obviously a moderator, I'm sure you know. How can I get the trouble shooting guide that the factory techs would use to trouble shoot this problem. I know for toyota you can just go online and download what you need. Does Acura do this too?

Thanks for your help,

Exporschedude..

Sure. Do a search for the Helms Manual. If I remember correctly, it's a little pricey, but should have everything in there you'd need. Also try asking the dealer if they'll goodwill the problem. You never know, and it doesn't hurt to ask.
