To those with lightweight fly-wheels.

Since I've isntalled a JDM DC5r (OEM honda) 4.7kg flywheel and exedy sports organic clutch there has been a 'sshhhshhhsh' sort of spinning sound coming from the engine bay. It's most noticable on deceleration at higher RPM but consistant if you listen hard enough.

The sound started almost immediately after the new clutch and flywheel went in and has remained consistant through engine oil and transmission fluid changes.

My mechanic has had a hard time pin pointing the sound, but he recieved a second opinion from a mechanic operating next door who believes it's a gearbox related sound.

Personally I suspect it's related to the clutch and flywheel (maybe one of the 6 springs on the clutch is loose and rattling slightly when under differing loads).

I know other members have installed lightweight flywheels/HD clutches... have any of you experienced a similar noise? Any input would be really appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris

I read about this somewhere on here before. The person had a flywheel and clutch put in and they said the clutch had holes in it and let too much sound through. nothing wrong w/ it, just an annoyance, so his suggestion was to get only the flywheel w/ stick w/ the OEM clutch.

ok thanks for the info xizor, i don't think I'll put my stock clutch in I'll just put up with the noise.

I was originaly told my gears could be grinding away so I was a bit worried.

Does it make the sound with the clutch depressed or you hear it under all condition?

The noise should be your throwout bearing then.....I have had that noise in many cars and When clutch was changed it went away

Thanks for the input, this is originally what i thought it would be. The throwout bearing was replaced with a new one when the new clutch and flywheel went in... maybe its simply more noisy due to a different design. Or, if the piece supplied with exedy clutch kit is OEM, maybe the design is slightly faulty.

The car is working fine, the sound has just been grinding on my nerves.
