Had mine done today while getting my rattles fixed, once and for all. The invoice says:

7370A3 INSTALL A CORRUGATED PLASTIC TUBE OVER THE REAR WIRE HARNESS

Simple, done in seconds.

Got this in my mail this morning from MSN Cars (My Car):

Recall Alert: ACURA TSX
Owner Notification Date: Sep 28, 2004
Number of Units Potentially Affected: 40060
Component Description: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:TAIL LIGHTS
NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V429000 Schedule an Appointment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description of Recall Campaign: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER CARS, THE WIRE HARNESS LOCATED IN THE TRUNK HINGE AREA IS NOT ADEQUATELY PROTECTED AND OVER TIME COULD BE DAMAGED WHEN THE TRUNK IS OPENED AND CLOSED.
A DAMAGED HARNESS CAN CAUSE A BLOWN FUSE, A SHORT CIRCUIT AND IT CAN RESULT IN A LOSS OF LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS, BACKUP LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHT FUNCTION. LOSS OF A TAIL LIGHT COULD REDUCE VISIBILITY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE HARNESS AND IF ANY DAMAGE IS FOUND, THE HARNESS WILL BE REPLACED. IF NO DAMAGE IS FOUND, DEALERS WILL INSTALL CORRUGATED PLASTIC TUBING OVER THE HARNESS TO PREVENT FUTURE DAMAGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN OCTOBER 1, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 18009991009.

I'm assuming this is where the problem is. Repeat movement of the trunk hinge can break the wire harness at the tie point. Can someone confirm it? I haven't received the letter yet, but am thinking about just fix it myself.

Why would you do this when the dealer will do it for free?

If something is simple enough and doesn't involve replacing costly parts under warranty, I'd rather do it myself. I have done all services and maintenance for all of my cars. I took my other car to the dealer a few times, but things were NEVER done right! Besides, I have all factory manuals, diagnostic equipment and all the tools I need.

I've been waiting patiently for my recall notice. Haven't gotten it yet. Does anyone know an exact VIN range that is affected, or are we to assume it is 00001 through 40060? I am in the late 39s and am not sure if I do not have the problem or if I just haven't gotten the notice? Anyone found where the actual VIN range is specified?

Thanks.

Enter your VIN# at the Honda's owners link site it will list if you are in any recall campaigns.
