Does it tend to happen only after you eat certain foods?

More seriously, I've read about this problem on Accord boards. Driver complain of the smell, but report that it goes away when the switch Gasoline brands.

I've noticed a little bit of sulfur like smell sometimes when I was using Exxon, so I switched to Mobil and I haven't smelled it since.

That's because everybody has their own "creative" spelling of the word.

But I held my nose and found it:

By the way Exxon and Mobil use the same gas. The company is called ExxonMobil! So I don't think your problem was exxon gas.

This is probably why your car smells:

Consider it a good thing...

smelly car

actually, I am from Canada, and I first used Esso, and once I switched to Shell, there's no more smell. my friend told me that certain fuel has a high concentrate of Sulphur inside and when compressed with certain engines, it produces the smell. But now, it's A OK!

if you use less than 91 octane in any of the new K series engines from honda... you will get that smell... its from the catalyistic converter.

Yeup... Kidd is right, it's from your catalytic converter. It's doing it's job.

I don't think that's where the smell comes from... octane level has nothing to do with it. It's depends on the temperature of the catalytic converter... I suspect that the catalytic converter just got up to proper temperature and was in the process of burning away the chemicals but you may have ended your journey while this process was just starting to take place.

I started the flatulant (or however you spell it) thread and am still playing games with it and my wife (who bitches constantly about it).

I tried the gas switch (from Shell to Mobil). It worked for about one tank full and then the stank returned. Then I switched to Amoco and so far so good, but I'm just into my second tank. I'm expecting the smell to return.

I talked to a co-worker who has a 2003 Accord EX. It also has the Lev2 converter. He has no problem with smell.

I just know when I go to the dealer to complain about it, they are going to give me grief (if they even have the part in stock).

I looked up the price on a couple of the sights that someone else here had posted for parts and the cheapest price for our catalyc converter was around $620 with a list price of $800 something. Pretty obscene if you ask me. Wonder if the Accord uses the same part and what they charge for that. I see this crap all the time. We have a fax machine at work that has the same toner cartridge as one of our Lexmark printers. The price for the one for our fax machine is $150. The price for the one for our Lexmark printer is $75. Guess which one I buy.

Somebody said he saw this topic on an Accord forum or two. It would be greatly appreciated if you could post those links? I'd love to see what they have to say.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I do get relief for a day or two if I run it hard for a little bit. That is, took it up to 7000 rpm a few times, using sportshift on my AT. Which makes me wonder if it just clogs up easily.

How long is your drive? It's not the fuel.
