Question Steering wheel sticks

When I start driving the car during the first 10-15 mins the steering kind of sticks sometimes. Like I am going to turn the steering wheel 90 degres, but it sticks somewhere around 45 degrees, so i have to apply much more effort to turn it further. The only idea that I have is that the power steering pump disengages periodicly...
And after about 15 mins of driving everythings works normal.

Please advise guys

Is the power steering fluid at the correct level?

Best guess is the PS pump. I had one fail on my Corvette several years ago and it
would lose boost when it got hot - cold it worked fine. I don't know if the dealers have a test procedure, but it's worth a call.

It could b a few things, restricted flow of fluid due 2 a internally collapsed line, after u drive it finally builds up with fluid. A bad pump or a bad rack. Does the car make any noise when u turn or is it just hard 2 turn at times?

Yes, it started to make squealing noise when I turn the wheel and it is hard to turn almost all the time now.... I just checked the price of the power steering pump, it is more than $500. Is that what I am looking into????

thanks a lot everybody

Is the vehicle still under warrantee? If not, you might try to find a rebuilt instead of a new PS pump to save a few bucks.

If you do the job yourself, consult the manual for the correct bleeding procedure.

The car is not under the warranty. The pump is under the question now. It may be fine but thanks for the advice about rebuilt. They cost 3 times less!!!

At this point I know that p/s pressure hose is leaking and the noise was because of low fluid. I did not know that I need to look inside the reservoir to check the fluid. (It looks fine from the outside because the fluid kind of paints the walls of the reservoir with the years ). I was not able to find an aftermarket p/s pressure hose so far. The Acura's costs $240 .

Does anybody know if there are aftermarket p/s pressure hoses available from somebody?

Is that something I can replace myself? I replaced oil and filters, once replaced brake pads (on honda), but I am not an experienced in car work.

One guy I know, ASE certified and works in lexus, said he would do it for $100 (labor). Is that a decent price?

thank you guys

$100 is a fair price for an ASE mechanic - it's probably an hour job for an experienced wrench.
You might look into NAPA repairing the leaking original hose. If no NAPA in your area, try CarQuest, AutoZone, Advance Auto, etc. Hoses aren't rocket science unless the original has some weird formed bends. Let the ASE guy decide what's best.
