Steering Rattle

yes yes... add this to the list of 10 other steering wheel rattle threads.

My windshield rattle is temporarily away. it seems to come and go in long enough intervals that i dont even mind waiting for the official fix from acura.

THE STEERING WHEEL IS ANOTHER STORY! I cant take it anymore. it seems like it would logically be comming from the plastic piece behind the wheel itself, but when you hold it from moving, you still hear the rattle. the more i hear it, it actually does sound like it comes from the horn/airbag area and sounds like a spring. is this something hard to fix yourself, and how long do you think acura would take to do it. I just hate the idea of bringing it to them b/c as we all know, you bring something in to get fixed and get something scratched in the meanwhile....

any ideas if it might even be something else?

You mean a popping sound? Or a rattling sound?

I'd be careful doing any kind of DIY work around the airbags.

oh my god. i didnt even press submit yet and theres two replies!

its a rattle noise. i know lots of people call creaks and crackles, rattles. but this is defineatly a rattle. it sounds similiar to what screws or change would sound like bouncing around in a plastic cup maybe? its really the only noise i have from inside (knock on wood). the windshield is on again off again and isnt very often (crackle noise) and the window creaks i had lubbed at acura and they havent been back since this summer. now im going to beat myself for saying that because i bet they will start making noise now...

Just take it into the shop. It'll be easier (and probably safer) to have them look at it than trying to fix it yourself.

Someone on this board recently got this fixed at the dealer - insulated the spring in the steering wheel airbag. It has to be a dealer fix - don't try to do it yourself.
