steering column rattle fixed!

first of all, touchwood... :P

brought the car in, dealer 'explains' to me why it rattles (spring, air bag, sth like that...). I then ask if they can fix it. they kept the car for an extra day, called me and said it is fixed! this noise has been bugging for so long and it is finally fixed! touchwood again...

anyway, the service manager told me they insulate the spring that is connected to the air bag complex.

I still see a few members reporting the same problem, that's why I am sharing the news...

cheers.

i just dropped my car off today and got a loaner so i can get the steering rattle fixed. they were supposed to do the work tommorow but i got a call today saying they took it in early and did both the tailight recall and fixed the steering rattle. they said they repositioned some wires behind the airbag. i hope its fixed and will let you know tommorow once i test it myself. now im just crossing my fingers that they didnt scratch up my trim and make something else noisy.

p.s. i had a 04 loaner tsx and the car was DEAD silent (and super fast with a triptronic might i add). it just had the windshield noise but thats common so i didnt consider it anything abnormal...

alright now im completely annoyed... i picked my car up tonight and i still hear the damned noise. i cant wait to call up the asshole serviceman tommorow and ream him out. i literally took the day off work so i can be there to SHOW them the noise to avoid any 'unable to produce noise' bullshit. we didnt even have to take the car out, bc you can reproduce the noise just by smacking the side or bottom of the steering wheel.

the service report said customer heard noise like loose screws especially over big bumps. removed airbag and found loose wire harness. repositioned harness and secured.

well hello assholes, did you bother to smack the wheel to see if it still made the f-ing noise?!!!!!!!?

ill update tommorow. i pride myself on being laid back and unconfrontational, but this will be thrown out the window come tommorow morning when i go contra on them....

new update...

i dropped my car off yesterday AGAIN bc the steering rattle was never fixed. the first attempt they said they repositioned and secured some airbag wire that was loose.

today i got a call saying they are going to keep it for an extra day because the headlight stalk is the culprit. i knew it wasnt, but said ok ok, ill see how it goes. mind you i have held the stalk while battering the wheel to see if it stopped the noise and it did not.

so after about 30 mins, i called back and said that the loaner i have is making the same noises and you can specifically hear it from the airbag area, not the light stalk. they said they would keep that in mind. now i just got a call saying the car is ready right now because they found that the noise was comming from the airbag itself, so they replaced it and now the noise is all gone. im going to pick it up tonight so ill let you know the outcome.

if the problem is fixed or not, the dealership and svc people are being super nice about it all and i have no complaints.

::crossing my fingers::

did yours ever get fixed mofocker? I had the dealer look at mine for the same problem last fall and they said they replaced a switch of some sort. it did seem to fix the problem until about 3-4 weeks ago. i'm taking it in tomorrow and will have them look at this problem again.

Is there a proper service bulletin for the steering wheel rattle? I've only had my 05 TSX for a month now and over the last week I've noticed the rattling becoming more and more frequent -- enough that I can't take it any more.

I plan to call the dealership tomorrow to schedule a service appointment but want to know if there is a service bulletin regarding this issue.

I was told the other day when I took it in again to Acura of Tempe that many other people have complained about the same steering column rattle problem with their TSXes (and even some other model Acuras) but that there was nothing that they could do and I would have to live with it. They said they have reported it to Honda but there are no TSBs and there is no known solution.

They also gave me the same excuse for two other noises that bother me (there is nothing they can do and I have to live with it). wtf

They also tried for the second time now to fix a center dash squeak/cricket noise. They made it a lot better this time but it is not 100% fixed and still bugs me. I think I might try another local dealership.

Any updates on this? My steering wheel just started making noise when I got over imperfections in the road...

For those of you who have had it fixed, how long has the fix lasted?

So I took my car in today to have them look at the buzzing spring noise that's coming from the steering wheel and was told that "it's a floating airbag that is held together by springs and that's how Honda designed it".

I have my doubts since I think if it was design issue, all TSX would have the same problem. I wanted to test it on a loaner, but they didn't have 1 available.

They are going to call the rep and see if there is anything they can do for me. I wanted them to check the airbag assembly but they refused to saying it's a safety issue.

FUSTRATING!
