just to add in my info, my car also struggled to start like some people experienced on this forum... I kinda noticed the starter dying on me gradually because I noticed more frequent slow startups from before.

hhmm about two weeks ago my tsx failed to start. I let it sit for about 20 minutes and then it started after some struggling. I hooked it up to my battery charger and it's been "OK" since then. I still have some trouble starting...

Hopefully my starter won't go out.

can't you just bring it to the dealer and tell them to fix a dying starter?

BTW, how do you know its dying?

That sucks. I remember posting about this and everybody said it was normal. Makes me wonder now. I still get some days, when it takes forever to start.

Thank God more people are experiencing it (Not in a bad way).

Just yesterday, my TSX struggled to pass 200rpm then started after 2 full seconds. If anything, I hope my starter fails before my warranty expires,

This has happened to me several times. I took it to the dealer and they could not duplicate the problem. I am just going to wait til it dies.

That's not a starter issue. That's because you almost flooded the engine.

Could it be that you burned out the starter as a result of what you thought was a struggling start?

The manual also says that there can be a slight delay as the car does emissions checks and controls before actually starting the car. This may be perceived as a slow start (or at least make it more difficult to determine between the two)

Let us know what the dealer wrote on the service invoice, like the part(s) they replaced.

Once the engine is turning at 200rpm, you have fire, but probably in only one or two cylinders. For that to happen on a recent engine, you have to have flooded the other cylinders with gas, effectively preventing them from firing up for a few seconds. For that to happen, you would have had to press on the gas before and during startup. It happens, don't worry about it.

At that RPM though, the starter is not doing any good, it's floating. Actually, it can't be good if you keep on riding the starter at that rpm.

Thanks for the update

So I guess your starter was defective?

EDIT: Does the new starter make it turn over any faster than when the old one was working?

Yes, new starter response time is much faster than even the original starter... kinda weird.... oh well, hopefully it's an upgrade for me.

The tech guy said I just got unlucky with a faulty starter..... im one of first cases with this problem but that might be because I have high mileage. We'll have to wait until the rest of the population gets to the 35k mile level and see if any starters start dying.

This happened to me as well right before thanksgiving, it came on very suddenly as well. It was very clearly something with the solenoid in the starter, you could hear the starter spin up but it would never catch. I could start it if I screwed around with it, but it took 20-25 seconds when I was having the problem. I did manage to get it replaced before it completely 100% died on me.

I'm just glad my dealer here was willing to work around my travel plans for the thanksgiving with the rental and all. They were extremely helpful.

I Dont Know What To Say Guys .. Dealer Say Normal On Mine Too. They Say That Look At My Key Rings.. U Got Other Car Keys That Got The Computer Chip In It. When U Start The Car, It Picks Up Other Keys Codes Too.. So It Takes Longer..
I Took Them All Off. One Key And Remote .. All Others Not Near By.. Is Ok..

Had a thought - has anyone had trouble push starting an MT TSX? If this starter business happens at a not so convenient time - I'd assume push start is an option. Yet another reason to get an MT.

The push start method works if you have a MT. My starter died today without warning while on a business trip 4 hours from home. It was having trouble so I took it to a local dealer and the starter officially died at the dealer. We did the push start and I drove home 4 hours. I really wanted to get back home. I am taking it to my dealer tomorrow. I have around 27k miles on the car. I'll let you know how I make out.

btw Northeast Acura (Latham NY) was great about the situation considering I droped in at 3:00 with the problem.

Another starter went

How many months have you had the TSX and how many times do you start her up in a day? (trying to determine how many times you used the starter before you experienced total failure).

Do you keep the car key seperate from other keys? Probably not related but the manual says to keep them seperate b/c of the microchip in the key.

I probaly start the car between two and four times a day. I have had it for 16 months. I would think it would last more than that. The dealer was really surprised that it went that fast. I thought it was strange because there was no warning. It is at the dealer now. I think that the electrode got stuck and the flywheel ate it. I'll let you know if I find out more.
