Start-up problem

Hi guys,

I've been problem with my TSX. Its brand new, bought it in May this year, and has about 4900 miles on it.

This, I tried to start-up the car to go to chruch, but the car will not start.
I checked that no lights was left on overnight that could have drained the battery.
The car is also not exposed to the cold as it is parked in an underground heated garage.

So, I went off with a friend and called Acura Care after the service. AAA came and the mechanic jump-started the car. He didnt find any problems with the car, but he mentioned that his daughter's TSX also had similar starting problems.

After he left, I let the car run for a good 15 minutes, letting the engine charge the battery. And guess what happenned just now in the evening as I am about to go out and get some groceries?

The car will not start again ! AAA is on the way ...

does anyone have any similar problems?

did you shut the car off again after 15 minutes if you did it might not of charged the battery enough. Or you have a electrical problem or bad battery.

yes, if under warranty, just have the dealer look at it. It's probably a dirty ground somewhere or a bad battery.

From 2005 on, Acura warranties the battery for a full 4 years.

Dead alternator, or even an alternator that's not grounded cannot be jump started. I concur with other about the battery causing the issue.

It'll most likely be an alternator or battery thing - provided you've not done any crazy electrical mods. Battery not holding a charge or alternator not charging the battery to provide enough juice to start up.

Make sure your air, stereo, any electrical things that would use battery power is off when you start the car.

Either way the dealer should cover it.

I agree that it is most likely the battery, but you can often jump start a car with a dead alternator, the car often dies shortly after the cables are removed. I have driven a car to the shop with a dead alternator with a booster battery connected under the hood with the hood tied down, rather ghetto for the 4 miles but it was cheaper than a tow! A dying or dead alternator usually trips the idiot light when running or obviously shows low voltage in a car with a volt meter.

Forgot to mention that, also (not sure on our car), but with my bro's civic, when the alternator was dead, and fore-warning of this would be an intermittently functioning speedometer.

9 out of 10 times something caused the battery to go dead. Watch for shorts. CAA (AAA in the US) can check the alternator (its not the alternator) and shorts in the entire system through a test they do.

hey guys,

thanks for all the replies. the car is 100% stock, no sound systems or anything. the only 'mod' it has is 35% window tints.

i will ask the dealership to check the battery and alternator, and perform the required tests for it.

the dealer service is very full and can only give me an appointment on thrusday. so i'll post the outcome.

thanks again.
