Spiders in the car!

Hey guys,

So I was driving the other day, when my gf pointed out to me (when I was stopped, thankfully) that above my head was a spiders sack/nest that had opened and there was a baby spider above my head . After dealing with that spider, I looked around the car and found that in the crease of the rear door was another one of these spider nests, also opened.

While worse things can happen to a car, this is defintely not good. I am thinking that since there is no food or anything interesting in the car that they will probably leave. I am not particularly interested in spraying raid in my car. They're pretty nasty looking spiders too; big bodies with striped legs...

Anybody have a similar experience or at least a suggestion?

Whoa freaky, I personally would attack the area with some raid but I guess its up to you.

I think if you park under areas with alot of trees and brushes, it can be a culprit.

Once had a hornet fly into my window from the passenger side, and out my drivers side while I was driving!

lol, there have been threads about this before, and i actually had this problem too. thank god there were not egg sacs. but every time i'd go into my car, i'd see strings of webbing going across my winshield in the sunlight.

i think they pretty much just go away or die after awhile, especially in the dead of winter. other than constantly vaccuuming your car and keeping it clean, i don't know how else you'd get rid of your friendly neighborhood nuisance.

Wait till the weather gets good and hot and park in the sun all day. I don't think the spiders will take too kindly to hanging out in your 120 degree car all day.

And like some one else said, keep your interior clean. Might be worth it to spring for an interior detailing if you lack the requisite analness.

See that's what's surprising. My interior is immaculate and I don't allow food in the car. Also, the car has been garaged for the better part of the past two months. And I don't mean garaged at night after work, I mean it's been sitting in a garage for 24 hours a day whenever it has been poor weather outside.

This may have given them the time they needed to get in there and breed. I'm starting to think I should stop keeping my gym clothes in the car.

I suppose a good vacuuming couldn't hurt, but honestly I dont know why they're in there. I'll definitely try parking the car outside on a hot day as soon as it decides to start being hot out here in New England.

Also, xenonhid, funny you should mention hornets. A few years back a family of hornets built a nest in the seat-back pocket of my moms car. We had spilled a bag of chex mix in there and forgot to clean it up, and my mom has a habit of leaving her windows cracked at night. You can imagine what kind of a scene it was when we had six people in the car and a few hornets decided to pop out.

There's plenty of nooks and crannies to get inside your vehicle. I'd get a powerful vacuum and vacuum the crap out of it. Just let it sit in certain areas for a long duration to make sure those critters are gone.

Jlukja:

Lol. That spiderman picture was Hillarious.

I think that was from that 70s Spiderman TV show right?

Guys: I will take that spider sack over a big cockroach (or palmetto bug) crawling up your pant legs (While you are FREAKING DRIVING!). That crap happened to me once. I almost had an accident. That was in my pre TSX days.

How would anyone like to have one of these bad boys crawling up your leg? IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

I would undoubtably shit in my pants and drive off the road if a cockroach started crawling up my leg while I was driving.

Hahaha, reminds me of the time where I was out with my friends and we were going to the casino. Anyway we stopped at a light and my friend in the back was saying something, so i looked back at him and replied. When i looked back, right infront of my eyes, dangling was a spider. Now i'm arachnophobia, so i swatted it out, and it landed in my friends lap, who then swatted it back to me and it landed the steering wheel.

Then i was like "CRAP" and the light turned green, but i really had to get rid of that spider, so i flicked the spider off the wheel and it hit the vent and landed on my friend in the passenger seat...

Anyway after he swatted it, we got out of the car after the casino, and we found one leg on my pants, two legs on my friends pants. We just hoped that the spider was dead, otherwise some poor spider is in my car with 5 legs in my car.

Needless to say, i was jittery when i drove home alone that night lol.

Anyway, as for the spiders in the car, your best bet is to either raid it, or just use something to clean it out...up to you if you don't wanna touch it though.

There was a dried out 2/3the way dead bumblebee in my back seat last week. It was my bad, I left the sunroof vented all day when I was at work. The poor thing must have flew in, got stuck, then roasted in the 90degree heat. Even though it was pretty much deceased, I still couldnt bear to touch it. My male coworker was my hero, he got it out for me. It grossed me out though. I would be totally skeeved over a spider. A cockaroach, holy cow, I'd have a heart attack!
