Seriously though, care to explain yourself? What would motivate you to want to disconnect the "mileage meter"?

If you are trying to "trick" the odometer reading, the ECU will not lie in the end, unless you change that too . . .. still not sure what you are asking anyway

Looking over our posts, this person must be pretty sensitive if we scared him off. We were all just kidding around like usual.

 

OK, but what did he ask. Just how to disconnect the mileage meter? He's probably leasing the car, thats why.

 

Something about how to disconnect the mileage meter . . . and if it was electronic or direct to the tranny if I remember correctly. I took it as he wanted to bypass the odometer reading.

fld is probably right about the lease perhaps. Anyway, I think that is a pretty bold question to pop out as a new member or a senior member at that

 

Right, he's probably leasing the car and want to avoid paying for extra miles. Or maybe even help his resale. I suspect that to disconnect or roll back an odometer is extremely difficult, otherwise it woudl be a big problem.

Difficult, but do-able and also highly illegal. I'm pretty sure tampering with the odometer is highly frowned upon anywhere and everywhere in the US and Canada.

I had a friend who bought a Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T with "60,000" miles on it. Turns out, the person that sold the car had rolled back the odo. The actual mileage on the car was 160,000+ miles. Needless to say, the car was in sad shape after a while and eventually blew the motor.
