Service A? Service B?

Hey board,

I had the service B indicator come up and the dealer says it includes an oil change, tire rotation, and "some other services"... $120. Is this just a scam by acura to overcharge me for nuthin'? Thanks in advance for any assitance!

My service B was that, but I just asked them to do the oil change, and considering I got free oil changes for life, it was free

I didn't need tire rotation and alignment at the time, so it was unnecessary to pay 120$.

It's total BS! don't do it! I paid $80, and I will never do it again. The only thing they did extra besides oil change was to rotate the tires. Pepboys rotates tires for only $10. Dealer "claims" that they check the brakes and stuff. I always stand right behind my car and watch what they do during the service, and the mechanic didn't even glance at the brakes.

^^Yet, knowing the mechanic didn't do the service properly, you still paid the 80 dollars? You should be for doing that.

I did bring it up to the service guy, and he talked to the mechanic...he gave me some numbers on the brakes and said that the mechanics all have a system on how they do stuff...blah blah blah. I didn't want to argue with a bunch of losers. So now I know not to do it again!

2006 TSX Maintainence Minder Codes (p274)

Maintainence Main Items
A=
  • Replace engine oil
B=
  • Replace engine oil and oil filter
  • Inspect front and rear braks
  • Check parking brake adjustment
  • Inspect these items:
-Tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
    -Suspension components
    -Driveshaft boots
-Brake hoses and line (including ABS)
-All fluid levels and condition of fluids
    -Exhaust system
    -Fuel lines and connections
Maintainence Sub Items
1=
  • Rotate tires
2=
  • Replace air cleaner element
If you drive in dusty conditions, replace every 15,000
    miles (24,000 km).
  • Replace dust and pollen filter
If you drive primarily in urban areas that have high
concentrations of soot in the air from industry and
from diesel-powered vehicles, replace every 15,000
    miles (24,000 km).
  • Inspect drive belt
3=

maintenance minder. If you regularly drive your
vehicle under these conditions, have the transmission
and transfer fluid changed at 60,000 miles (100,000
km), then every 30,000 miles (48,000 km). (For A/T
    only.)
4=
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Inspect valve clearance
5=
  • Replace engine coolant

NOTE:
  • Inspect idle speed every 160,000miles (256,000 km).
  • Adjust the valves during services A, B, 1, 2, or 3 only if they are noisy.
  • Independent of themaintenancemessages in themulti-information
  • display, replace the brake fluid every 3 years.

Not all dealerships has technicians that skips on things. I work for an Acura dealership and all the techs are very thourogh wen inspecting, the do this, so they can find more work to do, but none of my guys cheat things. they all have experience and noe wat to expect of a car by year and mileage.
i came from a toyota dealership and dat place was garbage, after going to this acura dealer, i noe how much quality they put into their work.

no doubt there are some lazy tech, but there are also a lot of really good techs.
