Seat heater bulb burnt out!

Hi guys,

I just discovered last night that my driver's side seat heater button has burnt out. The amber light(s) still work on the button, but the center white bulb is burnt out.

Anyway, I wasn't sure, does Acura replace the entire switch, or did they just replace the bulb? What did this cost you out of pocket if you weren't still in warranty?

Lastly, I've read a lot of threads where Acura messed up peoples center consoles. Is this a common issue with getting this bulb replaced? I'm kind of nervous to have the bulb replaced now, but I hate having the light out.

Thanks much!

In any TL it is the bulb alone that would be replaced.

I've not heard of any console damage issues personally. It maybe a local problem with a particular dealership. There shouldn't be any problems.

the light on mine has been out for over a year now. I never bothered to have it fixed since the heater works ok.

This is a very good DIY by lcrazyaznl - https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-tsx-2004-2008-124/diy-vsa-moonroof-heater-gear-shift-lights-679654/

The tough part is removing the center console. Cost out of pocket ~$5 for the bulbs which come in pairs. While you're changing the one side, do the other side too.

I had the seat heater light bulb replaced under warranty so I don't know what the cost is. Acura did not mess up the center console but I had it replaced because the lights went out. Twice. First time about two years ago and last time about a month ago. No charge both times.

So, I took my car into the dealership on Thursday of this week. Anyway, the tech supposedly tried to remove the trim piece to access the seat heater bulb. In doing so, he managed to crack it, and wasn't able to remove the trim piece. So, Acura had to order me a new trim piece, and according to them, the tech is going to have to "drill out" the current trim piece that is in my car.

Anyway, I'm going to have them replace ALL 6 bulbs since it's such a hassle to replace one.

However, I do have one question. How are they going to "drill out the current trim piece?" Will this break/mess up anything else in the car?

Thanks much!

Sorry to hear this. My suggestion would be to ask them what there plans are to fix it.

Have you had one of these bulbs go out yet in your 06 TSX?

Have you experienced the door actuator issue yet?

Thanks much!

After reading about others with the problem I noticed that the driver's side light is out. It does not really bother me since the heater still works. No problems with the door actuator (knock-on-wood).

Has anyone had any issues with the Radio Shack bulb being too hot or two bright? (Or overloading any circuits?) I ask because this bulb is 60mA, and the original Honda/Acura part appears to be 40mA. (For a Canadian source of a bulb that appears to be the same as the Radio Shack one, see here.)

Just an update!

I had Acura replace all 6 of the bulbs (3) for each seat heater. Anyway, they originally cracked the trim piece trying to remove it to access the seat heater bulbs.

Anyway, I got all of the bulbs replaced, and a brand new trim piece - ALL FOR FREE

good to hear that-all that worry and everything turned out ok. The last time I had my car at the dealer for service, the service manager offered to change the bulbs but I turned him down. It really does not bother me and yes I am paranoid about my car.
