Safe to drive without the front bumper
I am going to be getting my front bumper repainted but I dont have a second car to use in the mean time is it safe for me to drive around with out the front bumper for a couple of days? and how much should i pay to have a front bumper preped and painted?

The painted external part is actually just a bumper cover, the real bumper is a metal part that is attached to the chasis. The bumper cover doesn't really do anything in a crash but it would look super ghetto without it. Just rent a car for a couple days.

I wouldn't recommend it. There are a lot of lower plastic covers that will grab air and bend downward potentially being damaged. Rent a car for 2 days and save yourself the trouble.

Regardless, please don't drive your car around like that.

Technically, the foam and plastic boxes within the foam are the 5mph bumper. The cover is completely hollow.

I know that the covers don't do all the work, but they do something. So he's reducing the crashworthiness of his car--just a little bit--by driving around without one.

Of course there is also the metal bumber that takes the hit of a 10-15 mph frontal collison. After that, you're doing damage beyond what the bumper can handle.
And I definitely agree, as I stated up much further, it would be TOTALLY stupid to drive with the bumper on.
