Rear View Mirror doesn't auto-dim anymore.....

Has this happened to anyone else? Surely it's a warranty fix right? My car only has 11k miles on it.

Did you just get window tint? For whatever reason, after I got tinted mine seems to not dim as much as it used to.

I think there's a switch or button that disables the auto-dim. Is it possible that's just the problem?

There's a sensor on the back of the mirror (i.e. facing the front of the car) that detects light. If that sensor is brighter than the one facing the rear of the car, the mirror won't dim. Since you're tinted, this is bound to happen.

Mine never worked - before and after the tint job. I took it to the dealer and they said it was working. Since I've tinted the rear window it hasn't been a issue for me. I think before I'm out of warranty I'll get it fixed, hopefully.

none of my windows are tinted.....i will be first at a stop light at 10pm with cars behind me, and the mirror doesn't dim the cars' lights behind me. and yes, i know there's a button that disables it. i toggle back and forth between the two and there is no difference (i.e. it's bright as heck)

Try covering the sensor at the back of the mirror to see if it dims.

I may be wrong, but won't covering the sensor make it dark and hence not dim??

^you are wrong, he is talking about covering the the sensor that is facing the front windshield.

This sensor is used as a reference to compare with the rear-facing sensor to determine if dimming is needed.

Mine used to auto-dim before I tinted my car. Now that my car's tinted (15%), it doesn't auto-dim. That's a good thing so I can see the cars coming up.
