Rear camber problem

Hi all,

After a 4 wheels alignment, the service guy (not the dealer) says he's not able to adjust the camber angle to the specs (between -0.5 to -1.5 deg), presently is -1.72 deg left side and -1.95 deg right side. I believed that was BS so I called the Acura Service. They told me same thing... the upper arms are not adjustable and should be replaced. Cost: 115$ each plus labour. The Service Advisor told me that the mileage is too high for good will (TSB 06-007)

Why these upper arms are not adjustable???

Should I be worried about that (tires wear…)?? Do you have a cheaper fix to this problem? My car is not lowered. My TSX is 2004, 146,000km.

Thanks a lot.

Yeah, there is a TSB on camber for the car and no, camber is not adjustable in the rear unless you get an Ingalls or SPC kit.

EDIT: Just noticed Acura said they will not good will you. There are a couple of sites that sell the Ingalls kit, most notably, MrHeelToe, our forum vendor. Prior to Marcus selling them, I used importhorizons.com.

With that many miles (90.5K for those who like miles), it may be suspension wear but I doubt it. Of course that begs the question why the spec is so far out (each side should be -1; I think the range thing covers Acura's ass if it isn't screwed together right). And you were given accurate information about the non adjust-ability of the rear camber; it's not adjustable with the factory suspension. Anyway, you could go with an Ingalls camber kit, or live with it. Has it always been that far out? (the left side is almost 3 degrees off, that's allot). The -1.95 on the right side you could certainly live with without affecting tire wear too much. Sounds like there's something wrong on the left side though.

Simba91102,

You say the left side is almost 3 deg out? How you calculated? It's only -1.72, in my opinion is better than right side (-1.95).

It's something that I dont't understand?

Thanks

Unless this bugs the hell out of you, Id leave it. Hondas with DWS are notorious for their lack of adjustment points.

My Integra was "out of specs" on the camber front and back for years. Tires wore just fine......dead even.

Do the math...what is the cost of tires versus the cost of the control arms/kits and installation? For me with the Teg, the cost was the same as TWO sets of tires, each of with, even with the car "out of spec" lasted almost four years. So....and Im doing loose math here...youd need to burn through about two sets of tires over almost SIX years for the kits/control arms to "pay for themselves."

Not worth it, IMO.

Camber kit ($150) + installation is about the price of ONE OEM tire.

Could it just be increased static sag in the suspension? Maybe you're springs are just tired after that many miles. Does the multi link suspension change camber at all when the springs compress or is it pretty much the same throughout the travel?

Doesn't the Service Bulletin cover just the "Right" rear upper control arm or both right and left?

Sorry, my mistake. I thought the left spec was 1.72 (I missed the negative).

Excuse me, kit, plus installation plus alignment is more than $225.

Camber kit ($150) + installation (~$50) + alignment (~$65) = ~$265

It's still way under your assessment of 2 sets of tires (8 tires).

I got my camber kit in and installed it myself for the price of one aftermarket tyre, much cheaper than the price of one OEM tyre.
