Rattling Noise from Steering Column/Wheel

I have a 2005 TSX and when I hit about 5k miles, a rattle noise started to come from my steering wheel. The deal could not replicate the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

I also have the A Pillar clicking noise. I have an appointment for this week to get that fixed.

Yeah, had it. Dealer fixed it, said it was related to the vibration dampener, but I don't know exactly what the did to fix it. It can be hard to reproduce, but I found that if you hit the steering wheel, not hard but firm, you should be able to hear a secondary vibration coming from inside the column, if you place your head (ear) between the wheel and instrument cluster.

Great, thanks for the information. I'll let the dealer know and hopefully the noise will stop.

I have an 04 that had the same problem. It turned out to be I had the steering wheel extended too far (telescoping). Once I adjusted it slightly, the noise went away.

Turns out the noise was coming from my air bag so they are ordering me a new one.

How did they know it was coming from the airbag?

I have a similar problem. When I park my car the steering wheel makes this rattling noise and it also freezes up making it hard to steer. This freezing up of the steering usually occurs when I drive my car for a while (30 min and up) and when I attempt to make sharp steers while parking. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Not sure how they knew what the problem was.

But when they fixed it they scratched up the plastic covering under the driver seat AND the clip that snaps the steering column together. I asked if they fixed the sratched marks (by replacing it with a new piece)....they said yes! But they didn't AND they actually had the nerve to give it back to me with the snap on the steering column broken so there is a gap. I need to find a new acura dealership.

I have a rattling which sounds like it's comming from my radio. When i turn my steeringwheel it goes away, only untill the wheel is no longer moving again.

No clue what it is, does your rattling do the same?

i had this exact same problem and when i took it in to the dealer to have it checked out, they gave it back saying they couldn't find a problem and in the process scratched up my steering wheel. i was pissed to say the least, but at least they took fault and replaced my steering wheel. from what i've heard, the rattle is due to the airbag connector not being plugged in correctly. when they put the new wheel on, it took care of the problem.

Aruna, i think you should definitely complain to the service manager about what they did and they ought to rectify the situation with new parts. if not, try calling the acura customer service center, although people have had mixed results with them.

They are planning to fix the scratched up steering column and the piece under the driver's seat that they scratched. The funny thing (well annoying)...I have taken it in twice now and they never plan to order the part properly so when my car is there....no parts. SO - this Saturday they are suppose to have the parts in to fix my car. I plan on calling on Friday. If the parts are not there, then I will speaking to the service manager.

Thanks for the info. I always wondered why would my airbag rattle.

I did complain and they fixed it yesterday. But as they were fixing the seat cover they broke another clip. At least they told me and I have to go back once they get that part in.

good to hear that they are at least taking care of it, albeit it for more things than it ought to be.

Had this same problem fixed today as well and it seems to have worked. Service order says:

R&R drivers airbag installed insulation tape on horn.

Somehow I forgot to mention this to them...who knows how because it's the one that annoys me most.

Oh well, I can live with it until next service time. It only appears when it's hot out, so I'm looking forward to some noise-free months soon, anyhow.

They fixed the steering wheel but did not get the passenger seat rattle fixed as I'd hoped. I didn't hear it at first but it has returned.

Got a TL service loaner (with Navi) when I had the car in, though. Makes me glad I opted for the TSX. That car was a REAL rattle trap and it only had 4600 miles on it!
