Rattling Coming From Front Passenger Seat

i just noticed this sound about a week or so ago. it seems to be coming from the seat belt buckle area near the center console of the front passenger seat. when i grab it to hold tight i notice that the rattling is less noticable. when someone is in the front passenger seat the noise isn't there. is it just that the buckle is rattling against the seat or is it something more? note that this only happens when i'm driving by myself and even the slightest of bumps will cause the rattling. btw i have a 2006 6 speed. thanks in advance!

Mine does it too. I noticed that if you stick your nad between the seat and console and put some pressure on the seat, it subsides. Maybe weak rails or something like with the drivers seat??

It sounds like the sliding seat adjuster problem.

I think my 2006 does this sometimes, but it doesn't seem to come from the seatbelt buckle area. Try lowering the headrest to the bottom (touching the top of the seat) it worked on mine. Just a thought.

Tried that this morning - didn't work.

On mine it is clearly coming from the same place the OP mentioned. It is also very noticeable when you close the door of the car and no one is sitting in the passenger seat.

When you put some pressure towards the outboard rail (by putting your hand between the center console and the side/bottom of the seat), the rattle disappears.

Let us know what happens and if they fix it (and how!) so I can tell my dealer too.

mine would rattle/squeak when I would go around corners. It turned out to be the plastic around the 5AT shifter. I just used a little WD-40 and the noise went away.

Around the outside edges of the silver plastic, where it contacts the black plastic. I think this is right, I don't have my car to look at right now.

okay i got my car back and the problem is fixed!!! this is what they did. this is exactly what my invoice states

" road tested vehicle and verified a rata-tat-tat type of noise from the passenger side seat assy. removed the seat assy and checked the seat track assy. found nothing out of the ordinary. re-adjusted the seat track assy and re-torqued down all nuts and bolts. re-road tested the vehicle. verified repair. noise is no longer present"

well it's not much of a description but when i talked with my service adviser he pretty much just said that they took apart the front passenger seat and nothing looked out of the ordinary ( nuts and bolts didn't look warped/ defective, seat assembly/ track was fine) and that they just re-installed the passenger seat and re-torqued down everything and the sound was gone.

hope this helped!!

Had my passenger side seat rattle/clicking fixed today as well. Service order says:

R&R Passenger seat and flattened and insulated seat base.

Noise is gone as far as I can tell!

Actually it's not fixed. Still sounds like it's coming from the seat belt area.

i had that noise from the time i bought my car.. it's from the seatbelt buckle from the passenger seat.. After the dealer changed it to a new one, the noises are gone.. it's not a rattle actually, it's more like a clicking sound..

That's exactly what mine is doing. I noticed if you pull the buckle towards the center console it stops. Did it work that way with yours too?

I can also make it click if you push on the side of the passenger seat...

yup.. thats exactly what mine was doing before i got a buckle seatbelt replacement.. it's not from the seat, its from the buckle instead. get the dealer to fix it if you still have the warranty.. but a wd40 should keep it from clicking for a while

Dude i think I know what you're talking about... it might sound stupid but just make sure the seatbelt is flat on the seat the sound is the seat belt (metal buckle) hitting against the side of the interior. I had the sound then made my seat belt buckle flat and it went away.

Where are you spraying the WD-40? Down where the buckle attaches to the seat near the floor?

yea, spray it right where the buckle attacth to the seat, there's some kind of metal ring, and i THINK that's where the clicking sound came from. I might be wrong, but it stops the clicking sound somehow..

I saw that washer...it does look a little bent or something. Maybe that's the cause...

Keep us updated with your progress.

I've been having this problem as well. It appears to be a persistent, quick rattling sound that happens when I'm rounding a turn or downshifting ('06 6MT). At first I thought it was my CT headers, but I'm now certain that it's coming from the front passenger seat.

I have not taken it in yet...too lazy. I keep my sunshade tucked between the seat and console and it exerts enough pressure that it doesn't rattle. Good enough fix until I get to the dealer.
