Prolong driving lose power?

well, to start things off i have a 04 auto tsx. when i first bought the car i never had this problem until recently. while i was driving to LA, about 30- 40 miles in with no traffic, i noticed a lost of power when i hit the throttle. i really dont know what is wrong. i checked all the fluids, trans, oil, coolant and they all seem to be fine, and i just changed the oil and filter before going but it still have the same problem. so i was wondering if this can be a transmission problem, maybe the previous owner didnt use honda atf? thanks in advance.

Was the car sputtering as you hit the throttle? How many miles do you have? Is the check engine light on?

i just ran over 100000 miles last week. the CEL is not on. and it is not sputtering. i just dont feel the throttle response, but when i stopped at my cousin house, about 20 minutes, the car was back to normal, and the drive home, i had the same problem around 20-30 miles the car felt like it wasnt responding as strong.

Could be an O2 sensor that's not reading quite right but not wrong enough to trip the CEL. Did you notice if your car smells gassy or if your mileage has dropped?

Lots of shops had the machine to test the older style OBD-II sensors but I don't think many have a machine that tests the type that are in this car. The Acura dealer perhaps?

It doesn't sound like there's a lot of reason to suspect that though as you'll typically see your fuel economy drop through the floor if that's the problem.

I would say try and figure out how to reproduce the problem and report that back here or just take it to a shop. Does it happen in a particular RPM range? Does throttle position factor in? Any change in engine sound? There's not a lot to go on currently.

the the problem happens when i am doing prolong driving. most of the time, the engine sounds the same, rpm doesnt matter or the mph, i always use 91 shell or chevron gas but the car just feels sluggish like i used 87octane (never letting my sister borrow my car again) ...

Engine Air filter in good condition? I'm on the lines of what LukeaTron is thinking....bad O2 sensor. Perhaps it's not bad enough to trip the CEL, but eventually it will.
If it is indeed an O2 failure, the part is about $220, and easy to replace.
Looks like your car needs a tune-up!

BTW - if your the original owner, congrats on making it to 100,000 miles!

It could be defective O2 sensor, bad tank of gas triggering the knock sensor system and retarding timing, or engine heat soaked triggering high intake air temp and retarding timing. Pull the spark plugs and check the condition. It might provide some clues.

Interesting problem. I'd agree with the others. Check the normal culprits. although with the heat being an issue I would look for something mechanical to be the problem. When was the last time the tranny fluid was flushed? I would get a good OBDII reader. If you are having intermittent engine problems they may be stored on your ECU as a "pending" trouble code instead of an active one. This can give you a very good clue as to your issue.

One thing you can try is a 'reset' of the ECU. by disconnecting your battery. just make sure you have your codes. I doubt that this will help much, but my car used to react slightly differently when my g/f drove it because the car 'learns' the way you drive and adjusts to it. like i say, i doubt it is the case, but just throwing it out there.

I have heard of other brands having a problem with the coil packs overheating under long term driving causing low spark, but i don't know how you would test it or anything.
