Problem with new DC Header
Problem with new DC Header
I was sure I had the flex pipe issue on my brand new 30 day old DC header. After two weeks ownership I started to develop a minor resonance at around 4000 rpm which seemed to come from the intake. I checked the icebox and it seemed okay.
After a track day the car sounded bagged. I was getting noise, loss of power at low rpm and it would take forever to rev the engine from 2500 to 3500 rpm (5AT).
I took off the A-pipe today and surprisingly the flex pipe seems okay. I put a small flashlight inside the flex pipe and couldn't see any light from the outside. I looked at the other part (primary? sorry bad with the lingo) and there appear to be small cracks on the inside.
I should have checked for leaks before I removed the A-pipe.
Here's some pics. Any advice would be appreciated. I really don't feel like putting the stock header back on...

Looks like the problem is hopefully solved. I reattached the a-pipe and tightened everything. It's possible the header to cat connection was loose. I torqued the nuts to 25 ft-lb and things seem okay again, though I still hear a tiny bit of resonance at the intake. I just checked the icebox filter and it's pretty dirty.
I'm going to continue to monitor the situation; I'm quite certain any resonances would go away once I reinstall the stock header but prefer not to do so. The car itself is relatively new - 06 with less than 10,000 miles.
I've cleaned the icebox filter and am waiting for it to dry -- in the meantime I've installed the stock airbox lid with stock air filter.

Go to someone with an OBDII diagnostic reader (or buy one off ebay) and find out what code it is.
Also check that your first 02 sensor is plugged in properly and that the wires are not snapped.
