problem - broke nuts on the exhaust tips

While trying to take off my exhaust tips, I broke both nuts. They were rusted as hell. There is still some of the bolt holding the tips on and they arent going anywhere anytime soon, but I still cant get them off. Is there a washer I dont know about on the inside of the tip I have to hold while taking the nut off?
And now I dont know what to do. Im putting different tips on, but have no idea how ill attach them since the bolt is connected to the exhaust pipe, and Im going to need to chop off the bolt. Hmm...
Any insight?

It sounds like they are just rusted. Your best bet will be to drill the rest of the bolt out. That should allow you to take the old tips off and you just have to get new bolts for the new tips.

I would need to weld them onto the pipes? Or is there a place to screw them into the pipes? If they just screw into the pipe, I can just cut the bolt, and screw it out.

no welding. you just replace the bolts. the tips kinda slide/click on to the exhuast pipe, then you put in the bolts to tighten it against the pipe.

i have the same exact issue. i tried taking off the stock tips for the a-specs, and the bolts were rusted in. i have some reverse drill bits to try and take them out, but i've just been to lazy to fix it.

Nope. The screw is just tightened against the exhaust, which holds the tip in place.

lol
Ok well would just cutting the bolt work? Like there an area in between the actual tip, and the pipe where I could cut it. If it works, I could then just unscrew/slide off/click off whatever is still attached to the pipe, no?

The tips are just held in place by the friction of the bolt to the actual exhaust outlet pipe. You can probably wriggle the tips off by carefully rotating them back and forth while pulling... there's nothing else attaching them to the exhaust. The same thing happened to me when I was working on my hangers and putting on AP2 finishers. I broke off the cap on one of the original bolts of my tips (since the bolt was rusted up), so I had to drill through the old bolt to get it out AFTER I wriggled the tip off. It's a pain in the arse.

You can find the replacement bolts at any hardware store like Home Depot or Lowe's.

did you just use some normal drill bits to get them out?

i was kind of worried if i wiggled them off i'd break something. but i guess that's an option too.

^are we talking about getting the tips off? or are we talking about getting the bolt out of the threaded hole in the tip once you get it off the exhast?

for the tip itself, no... i literally just kept on "twisting" slowly but steadily until i could get it off.

as for the bolt, yes... i just used a normal drill bit. the bolt can REALLY get stuck in there, so it does require a little bit of patience.

btw... you guys coming to the jersey shore meet at the end of may? i think i've seen you both on the "other" site

edit: just wanted to clarify... they DO make drill bits that are specifically designed to drill out a stripped or "stuck" bolt. i tried one of these, and it didn't really work too well... so i just kept using a normal drill bit to shave away at the lodged bolt.
