all of my buttons light up except the right (passenger) map light and seat heater button.
So essentially I can see everything on my side, but on my passengers side you can accidentally turn on the seat warmer if you dont pay attention and if you had to read a map you would have to smash the sh** out of the map light a few times before it came on...

HOWEVER, magically while driving on the freeway, the light turned on and has been working ever since.

My '04 Just did this last week. 127K miles. Bought it April 11th, 2003 so I'm SOL on mileage, but under in years by a month. I'm making an appointment and I'll let everyone know what my damage is :/

04 with 58k on it here. Lights have blinked off intermittently for the last couple of years, but as of this morning I think they have finally given up the ghost completely. I have a good dealership (bought the car there) and a relationship with the service manager. I am going to call him later today (with TSB in hand) and see if I can get the fix done soon.

04 with 86K...i bought the car with 68K on it, until i saw the DIY dash light change on another site i didnt know half of that stuff lit up...
another note, my dome light on the passenger side works when it feels like it. if i press it most of the time nothing happens...
these are all things of course the dealer never mentioned.

I just got my 04 TSX with the navi back from Acura dealer today; dash lights around radio and navi had been fading in and out, so they replaced under warranty even at the 107000 I have on the car. And as an added bonus they washed and waxed it for free...sweet!

Um, I think it is whatever comes first, meaning if you are over 105,000 miles, you are out of the warranty. Even if you car is under 7 years old.

Good luck. You could pay for them to do, I am looking into replacing it myself once I get some free time. Doesn't look too hard and part is about $40 US + plus an hour or so to install.
BTW, have you ruled out everything? Make sure it isn't a fuse, all your lights are gone? Do the buttons light up (A/C, recirculate) Can you still see the radio under daylight (just dim and hard to see)?

Yup, I finally got the bug
It finally happened to me this past weekend. Bought 09/24/03, VIN 14424, 64K miles. I'm just under the 7 year limit on the extended warranty, so I'll be calling the dealer today to request a fix.

Man, it completely sucks, the interior is so dark now driving at night -minus the lights from the dash. They should just cover this repair or exclude the mileage, this is totally a time related issue.

I have nav too and that is the only thing saving me, I can see the radio stations on screen. Let me PM you the TSB maybe you should try to have the dealer fix it, if you are under the 105,000 miles. Wouldn't hurt to ask since that is the warranty for the 04s, but to fix it yourself doesn't look too hard.

I have talked to Acura about my '05 having this problem and they noted on my file. But said I was s**t out of luck with them fixing under that TSB. If in the future they would reimburse me.

Just purchased an '04 w/ 142k, non-navi and my Radio/HVAC lights are out as well as my driver's side heated seat button. Was there ever a DIY for this or replacement part #?

I posted the following message earlier today in another thread, and I decided it'd probably be a good idea to also post it here -- in what I must be the biggest thread about this problem. I'm wondering how many other people have kept their TSX long enough, and been unlucky enough, for this problem to occur twice.
The center-stack display on my '04 went dark for the second time about a month ago. I was at about 112,000 miles, so the warranty extension for this problem no longer applied.
Through my local dealership I sought goodwill assistance from Acura, and I was granted a 50% assist. The charge for the fix -- replacing a printed circuit board -- was about $220, so I paid about $110. I certainly wasn't happy about having to pay anything, this malfunction being so common that Acura acknowledged it by extending the warranty for it, but I would have paid full price and then some to revive the center-stack display. Not having the clock, not knowing what station the radio is tuned to, and not knowing what the HVAC settings are aren't things I could get used to.
To anyone living with a dark center stack: I'd certainly recommend seeking goodwill assistance, if you haven't done it already.
(FYI, I've owned my '04 (NHB, MT) since it was new (October 2003), and I'm at about 113,400 miles. The center stack went dark the first time in November 2006, when the car had 41,000 miles on it. My assumption back then was that the problem had been fully figured out and that only "good" circuit boards were being put in to fix cars with dark displays. I guess I was wrong about that, but at least circuit board #2 lasted much longer than circuit board #1 -- 71,000 miles versus 41,000 miles. I'm not sure how long I'll keep this car -- it might be a lot longer; I like it that much -- but I pray that circuit board #3 will never go bad.)

climate control lights
I read through the whole threads and I am still asking myself a few questions can anyone answer....
04 acura tsx 137.000 miles non navi
My question is: My climate control lights are the only ones I can not see when lights are on at night and as well as the radio button lights..but I can see the radio display well but I remember it dimmed with the climate control lights is this the same problem everyone posted about? Because my confusion became when folks said they could not see the radio display but maybe that is a navi thing..Mine is fine but the climate control and the buttons for changing disc etc are not illuminating like before..
If so can someone pm me the part number and a little or any help would be great......

Hey Guys,
Im going through the exact same problem. 2004 Acura TSX, 120,000 miles. I know im SOL with the recall.
1. Statement from ACURA regarding the recall:
Campaign - Audio-A/C Display Warranty Extension
Notes
04-021
February 5, 2008
Applies To:
2004 TSX - ALL
Warranty Extension: Audio-HVAC Display Is Dim or Dark (Supersedes 04-021, dated January 23, 2007, to update the information marked by asterisks)
BACKGROUND
NOTE : Because of a class action settlement, the warranty extension coverage for the audio unit display on 2004 TSXs purchased or leased between April 13, 2002, and November 7, 2006, is now 7 years or 105,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For more information, refer to Service Bulletin 06-050, Warranty Extension: Vehicle Warranty Mileage.
In some audio units, a component failure on the PCB (printed circuit board) could cause the audio display to become dark or dim and prevent the audio/HVAC panel buttons from illuminating. On vehicles with navigation systems, this condition does not affect the display, but the navigation panel buttons do not illuminate.
To ensure that clients have adequate warranty coverage for this potential problem, Acura is increasing the warranty on the audio unit display to 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For other defects the standard 4 years or 50,000 miles warranty applies, whichever occurs first.
CLIENT NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles received a notification of this warranty extension. An example of the client notification is at the end of this service bulletin.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
If confirmed by your diagnosis, replace the PCB (printed circuit board) inside the audio unit. The PCB core must be returned for credit.
PARTS INFORMATION
Printed Circuit Board (without navigation system)/N 3917A-SEC-A01RM
Printed Circuit Board (with navigation system)/N 3917A-SEC-A51RM
TOOL INFORMATION
PCB Tool Kit: P/N 07AAZ-SDAA170
(The kit includes an ESD/anti-static mat, a wrist strap, five colored markers, and a screw container.)

WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
Failed Part: Use the RM part number (from the repair order) without RM. Example: 3917A-SEC-A01 Defect Code: 5DYOO Symptom Code: Q3300 Skill Level: Repair Technicia
2. Then we have the part number: 3917A-SEC-A01RM (this is without navi)
3. Now I just want to know how to replace it by myself. I found this PDF which shows instructions on how to install the PCB (printed circuit Board). However, it doesnt tell us how to install it from scratch (meaning how to take it out from the car). Please let me know if you would like me to Email you the PDF.
Can anyone guide me with the installation process? Thank you.

Add me to the list. 04 Navi with 98,000 miles. Looks like I missed the extended warranty. For those who replaced the PCB themselves, can you share your experience? How difficult is to remove the panels. I didn't really see a DIY on how to remove trims around the Navi and radio. I'd like to replace it myself to save a little bit of money.
How much did it cost from the dealer.

Mine went out much later at 7+ years and 120k or so. Acura would only give me the parts for free and I would have to pay the "under warranty" labor cost of $400. I decided it was not worth it for some backlights.

After the entire year of not having center console lights, tonight, on my way to work they blipped on! Of course, the temp outside was 45°F. They stayed on until i turned off my car/lights to get a coffee at 7-11. I knew they wouldn't turn back on and i was right. They didn't.
What i noticed is that when it is cold out, they do work. The PCB doesn't overheat as fast im assuming...
