Unhappy Patch or replace bumper?

Hi

It's a long stupid story, and i won't get into it, but my rear bumper is damaged.

Would you patch or replace the bumper? How much would either costs?

I will try to post the pics now. Hopefully I followed instructions correctly.

Thanks!
Katz

Unhappy

My Acura is 2005 TSX. Acura dealer tells me bumper is $366 without tax, and is plain white (therefore will need paint).

Red face

I'm in the greater Boston area.

Where to buy online, TacoBellSauce?

What I see online is on Ebay.

The auto body shop states about $800-900 for them to get bumper, paint, and remove old bumper to fix the new one in.

What are your thoughts?

Also, you see the metal part inside the hole of the bumper? Is that going to corrode since it has been exposed to weather elements/rain? What can I do to for prevention?

Thanks for all your help, guys.

Katz

if you're really worried about the rain and junk getting in there, just tape over it!

You'll have to replace the whole bumper cover to properly fix that. Probably a $500-600 bill for a new one and OEM paint at least. I wouldnt report it to insurance though...mistakes can be costly.

No...I'm paying this out of pocket. I was rushing to get to a dinner "in my honour," and was already 40 minutes late, to this fancy schmancy location. This location was remote and hidden "by the coast." Used the navi to get me there. Took a wrong turn. And during 3-point turn - in a rush - backed onto fancy schmancy stone wall. I was too focused on navi, and too flustered and just STUPID. I babied my TSX all this while, and I did this. Yep - expensive dinner!

Just get competitive quotes from local body shops. That will be your cheapest route, and most of them will provide a lifetime guarantee of the paintwork.

Ok...thanks a bunch!

The auto body shop (recommended by Acura), quote final as $791. They also suggest that I have the quarter panels painted so they are matched in color. That would add another $350 up to $1,150.

Ugh. ugh, ugh...I want to do the right thing.

Ugh...what to do!! What would U do?

And thanks for all helpful suggestions....

Thats just a way for body shops to make more money. if they wanna match the quarters with bumper then wat abt quaters with the door, its BS. When i got a quote for fixing a small dent by a stupid grl on the front fender they said, they will need to paint the hood too. Fixed the car in 3 days, and when i asked, they said, they did not need to paint the bumper since the Acura color was very similar. Just charged like 400 bucks extra to the insurance company.....for me they did a good job painting, and my insurance dint go high either. I dont care if they made a lil more money, but made me happy........

Thank you Parag_a2z!!! I had the body shop replace the bumper WITHOUT any matching paint for the quarter panels -- and the results are great !! There is a very very slight lighter hue on the new paint, but really un-noticeable, unless you strain to differentiate it.

I am going to have the car exterior detailed tomorrow. Once done, I may post some pics.

Lesson learnt here is: acura paint color is consistent; and don't get scared-mongered into spending more money by body shops.

Hugs everybody.....
