Unhappy Passenger window switch broken - simple repair?

Hi All--

The other day, my passenger (GF) attempted to roll up her window. There was a crunch, and then the spring from inside the switch launched out by pushing a hole through the plastic in the top of the switch. As you know, there is no existing hole in these switches, so it looks like it just forced its way through some brittle plastic.

So my questions are A) how does one fix this, and is it relatively straightforward and B) what kind of expense are we looking at for a DIY vs. dealer repair?

I don't really understand what you mean by "the spring launched out." Maybe a picture or two would help.

If it is the physical switch that is damaged it is a straight forward replacement. You can get the part online or at the stealership for about $60.

Wow! Your girlfriend must have really been trying to roll up that window! ha.

Weird that it would fail like that. It shouldn't take you too long to replace. I am assuming that you are out of warranty or otherwise you would have just taken it to the dealer?

Trust me, I've been giving her a hard time about it ever since.

Yes, unfortunately, out of warranty, but I'm not afraid of making the repair--it's just sometimes the price to have someone else do it is not outrageous enough for me to do it myself, so that's really what I was checking.

From what I can see from diagrams online, it looks like I am looking for a "Power Window Switch Assembly - Left Front". Haven't be able to find one for sale yet. Any ideas on how much door disassembly would be required?

I think the part you are looking for is: 35770-SEC-A01, SWITCH ASSY., RR. POWER WINDOW. It should be the same assembly for all doors with the exception of the drivers door. The Power Window Switch Assembly - Left Front is the set of four switches for the drivers door and costs about four times as much.

I haven't done it on this car but I can't imagine that it is that difficult. Probably just a few screws and the electrical connector.

Simple...two clips and four or five hooks hold the cover in place. Use a trim tool and pry from the front of the cover (sliding one prong under dead center to pop the clip on the front, then the hooks and the back clip should release). Disconnect the harness connector, unscrew three screws holding the switch to the cover plate, replace.

Not your girlfriend's fault - happened to my switch too!

I know this is an old thread but the exact same thing happened to my front passenger window switch.

Granted, I didn't see it happen. I just noticed the hole and the spring one day. I've just lived with the hit-or-miss window operation for a year or so but now I have a big problem.

I lowered the window, noticing it sounded a bit rough. Now it WILL NOT COME BACK UP. And Hurricane Irene is gliding past us here in Florida.

Believe it or not, I JUST fixed this this past weekend. Thanks for vindicating my girlfriend (now wife).

It's so easy to change, and I got the part for about $40 from acuraoem.

Works like a charm. Enjoy Irene, I'm in Orlando. Still waiting on any signs that anything is even out there.

I just realized that last post wasn't helpful to your issue at hand.

From your description, sounds like a bigger issue than just your switch. But just in case, remember that both rear doors use the same switch, and all can be removed without taking the door panel off. Thus, if you need to try to get that window up ASAP, you could just pull one of the back switches, roll the window up, then return the back switch leaving the front one disconnected until you can get a replacement.

What a brilliant idea. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks very much!

In my gut, I also suspect it might be worse -- like the electric motor for the window. For now, I'll choose to believe it's the switch. BTW, I'm in SoFla and I knew Irene wasn't going to really hit, just dump extra rain. Just adding a dramatic flair to the post.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Can I get a double check on the part number. Just happened to me recently. Trying to fix asap, I have two long range trips planned next week.

35770-SEC-A01 <from earlier in the thread?

Thanks, just ordered.

My wifes reaction when that spring came blowing out of the button was priceless. I thought wolves were attacking her by the way she screamed. Worth the money imo.

Wow this just happened to me today...kind of sucks that it seems to be some sort of manufacturing defect. Wish Acura would cover it. Thanks for the instructions on fixing it.
