Paint rubbed off on front bumper
Hey all,
I have a slight problem which is quite puzzling to me. I was removing residue wax from the crack between the front bumper and the driver front fender. I used a little water and a microfiber towel. Next thing I know, there is paint on my towel :sqnteek: ... the paint peeled right off of the bumper. After inspecting it, I would strongly assume that I can peel more off with my thumbnail.
Any idea why it did this? I've never had any body work done; could it be possible that it was repainted before I took delivery?
Any thoughts?

Absolutely certain. There was CGP paint on my towel; It has completely peeled the clearcoat and basecoat off. The damage is about 1-inch long. The color where the paint peeled is light gray... I am not sure if this is primer or the plastic material the bumper is made out of that is showing.

It's possible that the bumper was damaged and repainted prior to delivery. Sh*t happens. Also, the bumpers are not painted at the same time as the car. They are outsourced and installed after the rest of the car is assembled and painted (read that here somewhere). There's been a few people here who reported mis-matched bumper colours. Take it to your dealer, I suspect you'll be able to get them to repaint it. One more thing, some of the paint schemes (not sure about CG) actually have a bit of tint in the clear coat, so you may not be rubbing as deep into the paint surface as you think. The bumper material is black - I've had cuts in it deep enough to clearly see the underlying plastic.
