(P)Leather Worn Out on Drivers Side

After only 6 months of owning my TSX, I noticed the (p)leather is worn. I found some older threads about it but I was curious if any other people who've owned their TSX less than a year has had this problem. And if so, did the dealer replace it under warranty? This seems pretty excessive for 'normal wear and tear' but what do I know?

Yeah, It's my commute car on the weekdays unfortunately.

The thing is my prior car was a Honda Civic coupe and I had it for 12 years and the driver's seat showed normal wear but nothing like this. Yes, granted it was cloth interior but still.

Nope cuz the seat belt doesn't really hit that area when I put it on (I checked). It's getting in and out of the car and rubbing against the back -- that's the only thing I can think of.

I did go to the dealer where I bought it this morning and showed the service rep. He said okay, I'll order the seat covers (I showed him a little bit of wear on the passenger side as well) and when it comes in we'll need it for a day. No questions asked.

your body must be scratching on the seat a lot when u get into your car daily.... try to be gentle while getting into your car. Take it to the dealer and see whether you can claim it under warranty.

I believe that piece is actually vinyl. Most cars only have leather "seating surfaces" with the sides, backs and headrests being vinyl. In any case, try using a leather/vinyl conditioner at least once a month. Even those "leather wipes" should help. Regardless, that wear is not acceptable.

I've had my driver's seat cover replaced once under warranty and a year later, I'm noticing wear again already... I didn't realize anyone else was having this problem. Must be just entry/exit habits?

Thats ok, my TWO WEEK old TSX got its driver seat cover replaced today because the lumbar support squeeks. They are still trying figure out the noise on the passenger side. It will be two night tonight without my car, just hoping they are going to fix it so its like a new car should be (perfect!).

the back of the seat is starting to peel. when i showed it to the service manager he never questioned it or said it was a normal wear thing. He told me it would be replaced free. I also will get a loaner car while it is being done. this dealer has always given me excellant service.

I dislike Acura’s (p)leather choices all together. My 04 MDX looks terrible, having to climb into the seat has taken its toll on the condition. My TSX however still looks decent, mainly because you have to climb out of the car since it is already pretty low to the ground. Definitely have the dealer look at that, and demand a replacement!

Just my two cents.

So far, I'm on par to have a seat recovered/replaced every 7-12 months. I'm currently out of warranty, but because this issue was first started while IN warranty, they should cover it?

I have not had any recent problems with my vehicles, while they were under warranty, I took full advantage of any defects that I spotted with them and got them replaced promptly. However since I don’t have any warranty left I have become more relaxed with any minor issues that happen. I would call your local dealer, ask him about the warranty policy issue and see what he has to say.

BTW, I have had my MDX seat replaced two times under warranty, but the same problem always comes back, cracking, pre-mature ageing, etc. I have not gotten it replaced since my warranty expired.

Garry.

I asked elsewhere if anyone knew specifically what was leather and what was vinyl. I think I found out when I used some sticky Meguiar's premium leather wipes on the seats ... the stuff absorbed into the very few panels of leather, and just stays put on the rest. I'm not sure I should waste fancy wipes on "Mercedes leather" (see Albert Brooks' Lost in America), but after seeing Gabby's pic, ... I'm convinced it's a good idea! If nothing else, it'll keep the vinyl slick and moisturized.

I have the same issue as shown in gabby's photo above, but my '05 TSX has 110K on it, so I'm thinking this is not under warranty. Does anyone know how I should reinforce the spot or who I should take my car to so it doesn't eventually wear through completely?
