Over filled oil a bit

The oil is slightly above the top whole. Is this bad and should I drain some out?

If it's just a little bit, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wait a second, do you mean over the top of the fill line on the dipstick or do you mean it's coming out the hole you poured the oil in?

It would be scary if that's the case.

No just over the top whole on the dipstick. If this is the whole 0 * , the star is where it's at.

you could just leave the oil cap off and start the engine, the oil will come out no problem (SRT4 joke)

I would drain a bit of oil (or drain completely and refill to proper level) as soon as possible

The least it could do is lost of a little fuel economy and performance.

The worst it could do, if you drive for a long time and hard is oil foaming, or break an oil gasket!

It's not a problem. I overfilled my motor every time I go to auto-x or track day. The level of overfill is usually about 1/8" to 3/16" above the top mark. The only ill effect of overfilled motor is a bit of hp loss.

Thanks. What I ended up doing is changing filters. I took off the Purelator Pure One and replaced it with a K&N (simply bc it's easier to get them off). It then took the oil level to exactly the top hole. vwong is correct though after researching it abit. Put it this way, if it were a problem, Honda would have a ton of issues with their cars because most quick lube places either under fill or over fill cars.

im not sure about the TSX motors. but i have a Seadoo RXP and I filled it to the line nothing above. then ran the ski. when the engine was hot the oil level was significantly higher then the top mark. needless to say i damaged te motor and it was not warranteed. Id stick something down the filler and pump out a little oil to be safe.

It doesn't hurt anything if it's only a little higher. Guess what happens when the engine is running? Oil circulates the entire engine from the oil pickup, oil pump, oil filter, then to the various bearings in the head and in the block. The oil level will never be at the top mark during running. That's the same reason you need to let the engine sit for awhile before checking oil, to allow oil drain back to the pan.
