oil change twice in one month?!
oil change twice in one month?!
OKAY, so, kinda weird situation. End of last month,i made to consecutive trips to/from Houston, Texas (200 miles away). After the two trips, as i was getting home, oil life showed 10%, so i obviously went and got it changed. It's been a little under 1 month, and my oil life is down to 10% again! and thats only with 700 miles since last change! I havent been doing any overly-spirited driving, no racing, none of that. I just dont see why I would need a 2nd oil change so soon! i havent even hit 10k miles lifetime yet! please help!
Was your oil life reset to 100% on the first oil change?
Do you think they might have forgotten to reset the oil monitor on the first oil change? Maybe the fresh oil gave you an additional 5-10% of life and it went down after 30 days/700 miles of driving. The oil sensor is designed to smart enough to read the quality of the oil and adjust the oil life meter precentage.
It only cost $25-$35 to change your oil. It wouldn't hurt anything to change it again and verify the oil life was reset to 100%.

It reads conditions (temperature), driving style, mileage, trip-duration, and that's about it. It doesn't have an oil analysis machine built into it. It uses an algorithym based on a select few data points and determines how much oil life is left from that. It's not even close to a scientific examination of the actual oil... its based on averages (average oil life @ average temperature driven in @ average driving style @ average mielage driven @ average trip duration).

There may or may not be a sensor that directly monitors the quality of the oil. There are enough sensors that were affected by the higher oil quality and extended the maint period.
Wouldn’t the maint required/service soon light just come back on after the oil change if the maint reminder didn’t account for the new oil? The only way (I know of) the TSX would know if you changed the oil is by resetting the MID % oil reminder.
