oil change problem

i recently did an oil change on my car and after i checked the oil, it was kind of dirty already after driving around the block. My question is, what is the best position the car should be for all if not most of the oil to drain out? about 4 to 4.5 quarts came out when it drained.

i only jacked up the front of my car, so im thinking some of the oil was chilling on parts of the engine where it could not drain.

I always change my own oil, when the engine has warmed up a bit. 4 qts + filter sounds right. Checking oil levels on flat area is important, too. Just don't do it parked on, like, Jones St, in SF.

Drove the car a mile first. My driveway is flat, however putting the car on jack stands changes all that.

All but; gravity. I use to pour an extra 1/2 quart of oil in, with filter/drain plug off. Just to push any old oil out. Put gravity should do the job. I put in a magnetic drain plug, too–for what its worth. I'll say this; you will never loose the drain plug in the old oil, flowing out!

Jacking up the front will get the most drained out, then check it with the car on level ground and you'll get a good reading. I generally add 5 quarts, but never checked to see how much I drained out. (Considering I check the level often, and it doesn't seem to burn any, I probably drain 5 quarts)

Why worry, dirty on the other side means the oil is doing the job. If it get dirty way too fast may means you have a sludge built-up, just may be. Of course certain dirty old oil in the pan will make your new oil look dirty right away after pouring into it.
Seriously the 2.4 is pretty reliable given basic oil change is done properly.

Vehicle should be level or close to level - no need to turn it upside down and shake it ...

haha... just in passing; it helps to remove the oil cap when changing out the oil. Air flowing in helps push the old oil out.
