"This is not an ashtray" compartment question
I got my TSX used, and noticed that the "this is not an ashtray" compartment doesn't open and close like the one right above it. It has a notch that it would catch on and not open fully so I had my nearest dealership fix it. The one they replaced it with doesn't get stuck anymore, but it still doesn't open the same as the one above it. (It's also noisy as heck so I'm having them replace it again)
Does anyone know how to make it smoother like the one above it, or am I stuck with this compartment feeling like it came out of a toy car forever?

Mine is kind of screwed up. Occasionally it gets stuck when you push it in to open it. It goes all the way down then binds up. To get it to open I have to hit moderately hard. I think one of the arms on the side is cracked and flexing in my case. I haven't bothered to do anything about it though.
hhhmmm....
well I have two of those compartments and both of them work flawlessly.
I bought a second one to modify the EDFC unit into it and to remove the
"not an ashtray" red coin holder thingy.
they're very touchy with their alignment, it could be that the bolts holding
them in place are too tight on one corner, or that it's just slightly out of line,
or it could be that the cubby itself is faulty.
if you could test the cubby outside of the car, that would narrow it down.
if it works flawlessly on it's own, then the installation is the problem. but then
again it's kinda hard to test that if all the work is being done at the dealership.

In my case I can see the little arm getting stuck directly at the apex of the channel it follows. I put some more grease on it and it didn't get stuck again for a while but it's back to doing it about 1 in 5 times now. I think the arm might be cracked.
Also mine looks quite different from the picture you posted of yours a bit ago. I have a green ring 04 so maybe it was changed when the ignition ring light changed.

Mine is also a little touchy like the OP's. I bought my 06' tsx certified from an acura dealer, and the lower cubby always had a slight "sticking" point at the halfway point between open and closed. If I push down the door to open it with normal force, then the door will open just fine. If I lightly press it, the door moves slowly enough that it sticks halfway open. I can make it open all the way by giving a light tap. I also notice that this cubby has a noisier opening sound than the upper cubby. The upper cubby is completely quiet and smooth as butter. I think the lower one should be that way too, but mine makes a little plasticky clack when you open it. Perhaps it really does just need some more lube. Either way, it's not like you're using that thing on a daily basis. If you are, you might want to spring the $60 and just buy a new replacement. Dealerships will mar the hell out of your vehicle because techs do not care about your car. It's a B*tch to put that cubby in though. So have patience! Anyone have advice for lubing the cubby? Man that sounds dirty.
