Noise when shifting into 1st while rolling

So I was going about 5 mph and was in neutral...when i pushed in the clutch and put the car into 1st to get going again, i heard a groaning noise coming from somewhere in the engine bay. has anyone else experienced this? This has happened before, but that was a while ago. I have a 6MT btw.

I think you may have the same problem as a few people including myself.

I get a clunk when I do that. The synchros have their work cut out for them when trying to get you into first while moving, even if very slowly. First gear is very, very short so a small amount of movement at the wheels means a large amount of movement on the other side of the transmission. It helps if you go into second first. You don't even have to let the clutch out, just hit second gear then slide it into first. The second gear synchros will spin up the transmission to about 2/3rds the speed it needs for first meaning less work for the first gear synchros.
