No vtec switchover?

I have an 04 TSX M/T and installed an Injen MR CAI Intake. I cannot feel or hear the vtec switchover. I know what it should feel like and sound like and that is not what I am hearing or feeling. The sound I get is loud throughout, but doesn't really change. What would cause a lack of vtec switchover? I have no CEL. Car has 55k on it.

I have the Injen CAI and a Greddy exhaust but I can still hear it cross over. Get your car to 2nd gear and then keep the accelerator down until you hear it. Your car should all of the sudden get louder. With an exhaust, I hear a big suction sound when VTEC kicks in.

Are all your fluids fresh, and at the proper levels?

If you're coming from an older VTEC car, like a civic or something, the switchover is much more blended due to the variable timing on the cams smoothing out the transition. In my old D16 civic it was like an on-off switch that kicked in all the sudden. On the TSX it just progressively gets louder. It picks up this snarly tone once the valves start opening wider. The change in the power delivery is much more smooth as well. It doesn't quite kick you in the ass as much as the older 'dumb' VTEC system used to.

My car is bone though so a bit more coarseness might be exposed with a few bolt ons.

i feel that the car is more responsive (throttle) but just no noticable vtec switchover. The rsx-s has a noticable switchover and it has ivtec as well.

the 06'+ models have a more aggressive switchover - that is what I hear. At high RPM, a stock 06 is developing about 15 more HP.

Did you hear/feel i-Vtec switch over before the installation of the CAI? Maybe the CAI has added enough top end HP before 6,000 rmps where you don't feel the transition as much. You might have closed the gap between before/after i-Vtec hp with the CAI.

This is assuming there wasn't a problem with i-Vtec before the CAI.

I can definately hear the iVTEC switchover in my '05 MT.

But it's true, it's not "kick in the butt" like past generation VTEC motors.

BTW the iVTEC feels stronger in the RSX-S because of it's more aggressive cam when the iVTEC kicks in. Especially since it's pumping out pretty much the same power (200hp) in only 2 liters. Compared to our 200hp out of 2.4 liters.

Yes, on my stock 06, the vtec was quite noticeable. It would pull quite a bit harder, and the rpm's would jump from 6k to 7k in like 2 seconds.

I now have hondata, and you won't notice the switchover AT ALL. I can hear the engine sound change, but there's no more sudden kick. The car does pull much harder though at the mid rpm's

Did you install the CAI correctly? Even with Hondata i can still hear the 2nd cam switch. If you really listen it can still be heard @6k.. gets a tad louder
