New wheel bearings?

I'm starting to hear what sounds like a wheel bearing noise on my '04, it's that whoomp-whoomp-whoomp sound that's speed sensitive. I think it's isolated to the front driver's side wheel. I hit a pothole a few years ago so it might make sense...

Anyway, any suggestion on where I can get the wheel bearing? Any difference if I buy OEM or aftermarket? I was planning to just take it to a local shop and let them take care of it, but was thinking if it's better if I get the OEM part and have the install it.

If I get the OEM part, is the wheel bearing the only thing I need to buy? For example, in this diagram is #6 the only thing that I need?

Also, would it make sense for me to also change anything else while I'm at it?

I've already changed 2 rear wheel bearings since I bought my car, it was the only part that I needed. The guy I bought these parts from recommended OEM ones, suggesting that they could last longer.

I had the same problem but it wasn't the bearings (also front driver side).....I recently had brake rotors/pads replaced and it disappeared.

^ Interesting... maybe I should wait until I replace the rotors first since I'm planning to replace the rotors soon anyway..

ye that whooomp noise is likely the rotors. but if u hear them more when turning its the tie rods (or CV joints), i forget lol.

to check what the problem is jack up the corner that you hear it on so that wheel is off the ground. have someone hold the steering wheel tight, then try to shake the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock. it should be firm and not move, if it does i think its the bearing. then shake the wheek at 9 and 3 oclock, if it shakes its the tie rods/cv joints (which make that kind of noise). if its all solid then rotors.
i had this problem with my last car, turned out to be just heat shield bent up behind the rotor.

One other possibility to consider is uneven tire wear. It too is speed sensitive and will make a pronounced sound at higher speeds. Rule out your tires before spending good money to have someone poke around....

I believe you and I have the same issue. Whoop whoop sound at parking lot speeds that seems like it is coming from the passenger front wheel. When I release the accelerator it goes away. It does sound as if its rotating with the wheel whatever it is.
I have heard it could be transmission related, although my transmission shifts flawlessly.
Do you have an Auto or manual trans?

So far I have replaced:
Tires
Rotors/pads
New struts (disassembly did not reveal anything obvious in that area)

I hear this sometimes on my 06 when I turn into my parking spot at work. It is a big left hand sweeping 270 deg turn and I sometimes hear a noise coming from the passenger side front wheel. Doesn't happen any other time.

I have heard some people mention torque converter (automatic).

Thing is the transmission is on the opposite side, and I'm not hearing a noise from the driver side. So i'm kinda ruling this one out. I'm thinking now it could be vaccum as the noise is throttle dependent.

I just replaced both of my front wheel bearings with OE parts.
The sound I could have sworn before was the right front could be in the rear. I drove the car with the seat folded down and that sound is clearly coming from the rear.

I will be replacing the right rear bearing in the near future. I cant imagine anything else that would be causing this fast pace woo woo noise back there. It seems to appear after turning, which if its the bearing makes sense. I have a slight squeek from back there as well when hitting certain bumps, but it should disappear after lubricating the RSB bushings.

Can you describe the sound it made when you realized you needed to replaced your rear wheel bearings? Thanks!

My 04 TSX has this same sound except it is coming from my rear tires. You may want to stop by a reliable tire shop and have them look at your tires for signs of uneven wear, or cupping due to the lack of adjustable camber / caster on the rear. I just bought the Ingalls alignment kit for the rear of my car so that the rear alignment issues that affect TSX's will stop chewing up tires!
